Hehe... With everything that has been going, a fellow member sent me some riding boots to keep me up and running safely and back to semi-normal mode... I don't think I have any Before pics, but I do have a few pics that may impress a few of you.. I wore these boots and although they fit PERFECTLY, the color was blinding needless to say. I could deal with it, but since I knew how to change this up a bit, I did... warranty.gif

All is done... MUCH better... I have yet to even wear them yet... but,I do foresee Barber's to be a GREAT break in for them... My ONLY 'beef' with them would be the shiny appearance of them... These pics are taken outside, so do not think theyare THAT shiny, but with boots, I do like a flat balck leather style.. We'll see.. i may really like the clean shinier look... hmmm.. ANy thoughts?

Flebing's leather dye... available at the local shoe repair...
Used Esquire 'deglazer', or cleaner for leather that helped take off about 70% of the red dye so the black would adhere/soak easily... no pics of that though..too bad.. turned a very faint red after pulling the red out of the leather.. Some derivative of a denatured alcohol... After running out of the deglazer, I used alcohol with a bit more elbow grease and it still worked decently... They came out very nice though.... beer.gif
Today, afer polishing and buffing, I used a q-tip and alcohol to pull off "over-dye"... you know, the dye that was applied and got one the surrounding areas that I did not want dyed...plastics, etc etc..
The boots will dull from road grime as you roll off the miles, so you should be fine if you don't like 'em shiny. If you want to dull them really fast, just rough them up with some good old fashioned dirt.
BTW, I like how you left some red highlights. The boots would have looked funny with all the different pieces of plastic and leather if they didn't have a little bit of color contrast.
They don't look like PimpBoots anymore, I sure can't wear them now. tongue.gif Seriously they look great and I'm glad they fit you so well. Please tell me you didn't dye the jacket too. goofy.gif

Probably because there are more buyers in their teens and early twenties who like that kind of stuff than not, and they are probably the majority of the sales these companies get today.

Volatile, How do you think this would work on jackets and pants? I want to get rid of the red on my jacket and pants but I dont know if the thickness would make a difference. Its got red "patches" of thinner leather sewn onto the actual jacket.

Actually I think it would do very well... The most important thing I would do just to make sure the black was absorbed correctly would be to "deglaze" correctly. The process is simple, but that will help pull a LOT of that red dye out and enable the black to soak in to the leather. One other thing is the "seams"...or, where the red meets other colors that you may want to keep. You have to be a tiny bit detailed if say there is silver next to a red 'patch'. If you want to keep the silver, you just once again have to be a bit detailed in making sure your black dye does not touch surrounding secondary colored areas. In your case, it seems the only other color may be black, which poses no problem at all.
I say Go for it!! If I were close, or closer, I would definitely help or even do it for you. On a side note, after going to Barber's for the races a weekend ago, I had some nice compliments on the boots, plus, those who knew about my personal dying were VERY impressed with the outcome.
Once again, I think it would work well... Good luck, and if you pursue the project, keep us posted and make sure pics come this way.. goofy.gif
These are very nice boots! I'm considering buying a pair, they have them on clearance at NewEnough I think for $119... But they have only blue and red! If I can blacken them, all the better!! Also considering buying a pair of used SM-X Alpinestars... Are they far superior to Gaerne?

I cannot give experience on the A-Stars, but these Gaerne's are very comfortable and seem to be of great quality. However, once again, do not necessarily take my experience as completely steadfast... Make sure and check the archives.. There have been MANY MANY threads and posts regarding gear all over the place.. The best way to really get knowledgeable experience on this is to find a thread regarding or referring to the A-Starts of choice... Good Luck..
Alrighty guys, I have now posted the pics of my jacket about 75% complete. They are in my gallery. Lots of thanks to Volatile for the idea, saved me a bit of cash on a jacket I spent nothing on to begin with. Wasnt as painful as I thought it would be, it actually turned out to be fun for me. I posted some comments with each pic in case anyone else wanted to give it a try. Also posted pics of the 929 in there.
