J.R. Alter Ego + knee sliders?

Would it make any sense to add velcro patches for knee pucks to a pair of Joe Rocket Alter Ego pants? I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here, because I want to be able to put my knee down, but I can't afford a closet full of gear right now, and I need something versatile first for commuting. I usually ride straight to work in the mornings, and take "the scenic" way home, which more often than not, consists of some good ole' knee-draggin twisties.

I'm sure it's physically possible to put the patches on the pants, but will they move around when I put my knee down, because the pants aren't tight on the ankle/calf? Help please! sad.gif

Got a pair myself. Only two ideas, I got are,
1) Pucks with elastic bands on them. (Pant could still shift, underneath).
2) Sewing velcro or elastic straps onto the pants then adding your velcro, for the puck.

Maybe I could add gussets to the pants to keep them from spinning on my legs?

I can't imagine that it would work. As stated the puck would rotate around the pants. Leathers fit tightly around the knees and prevent this rotation. Plus with your knee down the cuff of the pant is likely to drag the ground too, as they go outside the boot and leathers tuck inside the boot. I'd look for a good used pair of leather pants with puck acceptors to wear with your current jacket. I got a set of leathers off ebay for $390, Fieldsheer Revo Sport 2Pc. and they are really nice for the price. I think you can get the pants for just a tick under $200. But search ebay for a used pair of leathers or just pants, you will be sure to find something around $70-$80 for pretty good quality.

I see your point, but I don't do used clothing/apparel. What if the pants were tucked into some riding boots(w/ adj. calf)?

Leather. If you are wanting to drag a knee you definetly need leather. I touched my knee down once (by accident) in my joe rocket textile pants and put a hole in them, and it hurt. I bought a texnic chicane two piece suit that was almost new for 150 bucks. I dont like used anything but sometimes you find an awesome deal.

The fieldsheer stuff I got was new, and quite reasonably priced. I don't know how comfortable it would be to tuck the "over pant" style pants into the boots, but I guess it can't hurt. This kind of reminds me of like the knee pads you had when you were a kid that had the 2 velcro straps to hold them on. If you took that design and upgraded it quite a bit, maybe snaps rather than velcro, or a hook and loop style velcro setup, that may work????

What I was thinking of doing, was 1) buying the pants

3) sticking on a set of sliders

They'd be directly attached to the pants, I just don't know how much the pants will move around.

My recommendation would be to get the pants first and see how much they move on you, then come up with a design on how you want to make your sliders. I have (you guessed it) fieldsheer over pants that are pretty steady at the knee but have alot of play from the lower knee to the ankle so that the pant will fit over boots.

If you're too good for used stuff WTH are you doing buying JR Alter Ego pants anyway, buy something better.

The Alter Ego pants have everything I want in a daily riding pant except the sliders; so I thought I'd see if it would work. Since the resounding answer seems to be no, I guess I will have to put off dragging my knee until I can afford something more suited(no pun intended) to the job.

My brother uses the heaviest he could find plastic knee protection that's used for in-line skating and skateboarding. It has wide elastic banding that hugs the knee and pants tight enough to prevent it from moving around. He uses it when he rides his Ural around. Definitely not for dragging his knee, but it might work OK for the occasional dip into the tarmac. He also uses the elbow protection peices that come with it.
He recently had a minor crash with them on while riding a relative's big Harley bike. He rolled a few times on the ground when he fell over on the diesel fuel covered corner. They worked pretty well with him coming out of it without a scratch.
