Gloves

I bought some new gloves that I don't particularly like. I was thinking about making them my official wet weather gloves even though they aren't designed to be waterproof. I've got some silicone waterproofing spray that I use on my tent, boots, etc. What long or short term effect do you folks think the silicone would have on the leather?

I was sent there when I posted about putting mink oil on my riding boots and got severely chastised for it. blink.gif

Meh.

I've sprayed both my horrible 'waterproof' glubs (man, I hates them! Nassssty little glubsesss!!) and my everyday "Racer-X" gloves with SillyCone, and have nothing to report about adversity, the leather reverting to animalism, or LikeThatThere™.
In theory, stuff like this with Solvents in it wrecks the leather, and in theory, makes the leather entirely waterproof, stops it breathing, it suffocates and dies, explodes into flames, and dies all over again. But (however), my gloves never last more'n about three years anyway, and by them I'm a-hankerin' fer some new'uns, so I don't care. Asides, they's already dead, and they sher baint be a-comin' back to life in the near future.
If you ever dressed your gloves (in pretty gurrrlie clothes, or just with summat errrly or waxy) to protect'n'nourish'em, then they should be fine. The SillyCone'll seal in the leather dressing, and stop it hex-scaping.

Nup. Nuh-uh. Nope. Not at all.
