Perforating leathers at home

Well, I live where it gets HOT. I have a Vanson jacket that is fully perforated and mesh gear, but I wanted a two piece that I can use for track days. Could not afford new Vanson stuff so I bought an Alpinestars GPU on closeout from Motostrano. It has some perforatrion, but not near enough so I started in on it tonight. I got one panel done, tell me what you think.

How did you do it?

I'm guessing he fed some termites Essence of Pedant, mixed with a little blood from a VFR owner.

A 1/16 leather punch and about an hour smile.gif

Very cool. But, then I guess that's the whole point.

It's a good concept, just realize that those holes just took alot of integrity off the jacket. As to where it would slide and scuff before..Now it will slide and tear

That looks totally pro! So, is the jacket lined in the area where you've made the perfs? If so, did you also perforate the lining?

I've got some pants that could use perfs in non-stress areas -- they're bloody hot if the weather gets to 70 degrees or so.

No doubt some loss of strength. I am not going to perforate the high spots, elbows, butt, knees, back; here is a picture of a fully perforated jacket after a slide. It is almost 100% perforated, even over the elbow that slide. I bought the jacket this way and while it is not cosmetically pretty, it did not tear and is fully functional.
While it has turned cooler where I live right now, last week it was already breaking into the 100's huh.gif

Zonker, those are the pants. I slid a piece of hard rubber between the leather and the lininig which is nylon mesh. I am not sure how I will do the jacket as there is no place to get behind the mesh lining.

I emailed a few leather shops, and they either wanted over $180.00 to perforate the leathers, or used 1/8th holes which I felt look too big.
