Just picked up an Arai Profile last night.
I was extremely nervous about spending this kind of money but Shoei cancelled the Z-Two which was their model which fit me best, and my helmet was getting really noisy and worn.
So I went and did the whole head measuring, "Arai Profesisonal fit", etc.. and they told me I should get the Profile based on my head shape, they ordered the color I wanted and then changed out the cheek pads after the helmet arrived.
They new the price was bugging me so they threw in a free tinted shield & a little carrying case for the shield.
Bottom line after ~50 miles I'm stunned at how good this helmet is.
- Quieter then the Z-Two
- Very cool, the Z-Two was also very "cool" but this one is just off the charts on the ventilation, you can feel major amounts of air moving through the helmet even at city street speeds if the vents are open.
- Optical quality of the Arai shield is phenomenal, my Shoei had a brand new shield but the Arai shield is so much better it felt like I got new glasses, that probably has a lot to do with Arais sky high shield prices.
- Buffeting and aerodynamic qualities of the helmet are phenomenal... even at triple digit speeds when you turn your head there is almost no pressure on your head and no change in the noise coming into the helmet.
- There is a small breath guard built into the chin guard which seems to work extremely well for stopping fogging. Only way I can get it to fog is at a stop if I breath out very heavily through my mouth.
- You can feel the lower center of gravity Arai brags about. I don't think this helmet weighs perceptibly less then my Z-Two when you pick them up in your hands but it feels lighter on your head when riding.
Given the 5 year warranty I think I will be very happy with this helmet. Getting used to the shield attachment system will take some adjustment, I think Shoei's system is superior in terms of quick changes but the springs in my Shoei had worn out and the Arai system does not have any springs to wear out and seems to have fewer parts.
