Summer weight clothing

I was riding in my Aerostich roadcrafter suit when my brain started to boil over. It was hot--90+ in the sun. I only had shorts and a t-shirt on underneath, but even with the vents open it was unbearable. Does anyone have a recommendation for a summer weight outfit which is as bullet-proof as a roadcrafter suit. Something mesh, perhaps, with good padding: spine, and all appendages. blink.gif

Actually, yes, but it's gonna cost ya. I bought a Dainese T-Flanker perforated 1 piece suit and it is very cool and comfortable. And you can't beat leather for protection.

Or you could use the summer safety advice of one rider I saw today: he had on a t-shirt, full back protector and air jordans. Oh and his helmet was strapped safely to the back of his bike!

Motoport Air Mesh Kevlar...far superior protection than a Stitch and flows tons of air.

Do you guys know anything about Nitro gear?

If it is I have played with it is probably the lowest quality I have seen.

Don't bargain basement your gear it can save you, I have first hand experience with this.

Joe Rocket is the minimum quality I will wear. I have had good experiences but YMMV.

If cost is a factor go here. Just check back regularly.

I got that, a Fulmer Modus helmet w/ the mirror shield and a really nice cover when I bought the bike. I thought it was junk, but it is better than nothing at this point. I am going to purchase some new gear when I figure out exactly what I want. I would like to stick with the mesh jacket, and I am looking into the armored denim pants. Then again, I have changed my mind like 18 times... blink.gif

Get some special underwear like a Brynje meraklon shirt. It does a good job of keeping your skin dry so you can dissipate more heat. Don't wear cotton, or another fabric that absorbs sweat, as a first layer.

IMO perforated leather is best. (outside some $$$ motoport stuff) It flows almost as much as the mesh and offers much more protection. I personally have a teknic chicane jacket.

Fieldsheer Titanium Air Mesh product line is great. I have a jacket and the pants, they zip together to form a pseudo one-piece. They keep my nice/cool during the hottest and humidest of New England days. Cheap too.

I personally like the tourmaster cortech jacket. Just bought it last week and its great due to the ability to unzip and zip almost four layers of jacket.

Motoport Ultra-II is good, flows air well and many pockets, very good for long trips. Vanson perfed lether jacket, (with liner for colder days) also works well, but no pockets!

Short trips, Cortech Rider Blues jean jacket. Feels comfy, good air vents, good protection and looks good in blue.

Purchase used off this site or others, its cheaper and typically (leathers at least) are already broken in. You can always resell what you don't like.

Any +/- on the first gear stuff?

+1.gif Excellent jacket. You can turn it into a mesh jacket for the summer, or zip everything together and wear some extra fleece underneath and easily survive in freezing temperatures.

Perhaps, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting to find out. I'm pretty sure the all the Tourmaster jackets come with a zipper piece that you can sew into your pants to make them attach to your jacket.

Thanks... this is entirely too much to think about. I guess the worst problem is that I would like to actually see the products before I dump my cash on them.

Yep,

I just returned from a 4,100 mile tour of TX, AR, TN, AL, GA, NC, VA, WV, MS and LA wearing a Nitro mesh jacket as a replacement for the 1st generation JR Phoenix gear I've used when it's too stinkin' hot to wear my 'stich.

Good stuff, good price. This 2nd generation jacket is more substantial in construction, has better arm/waist adjustment, CE armor, a zip-in liner (nice in the mornings in the mountains) and fits me well.

My recommendation is to try on a Tourmaster "Flex" jacket, it's a Swiss Army knife design that is a definite step up in features and quality that would work well for a serious Summer tour of varied conditions.

In my experience, unfortunately not. Sometimes different co.'s will use similar zippers but often seem to mount them opposite of each other.

Not a real big problem though as you can just go and have zippers replaced to match up between different garments. I've had to do this a few times.

No. I have JR Phoenix (mesh) jac and pants, and a Tourmaster jac. The zippers are night and day different, the bastards.

No. CycleGear on Beach and St John's has some stuff, and Honda of Jax does too, but you absolutely want to deal with NewEnough.com or RapidRacer.com, and other online houses [except RideNow.com...frigging terrible].

I can't say enough good things about New Enough. 100% service, all the time.

If you make the trip on Saturday, you can do a lot of looking, and maybe buying at the Helmet Shop in Daytona where we're all meeting. fing02.gif Scottjen26 is planing on doing some shopping there for a new lid.

I have a first gear mesh jacket and love it. My first was a fieldsheer mesh and the first gear is much more comfortable. The protection is good. Last year mcn did a test on mesh jackets and the first gear was a recommended item.
