Anyone tried these and how well would you trust them?

I've heard lots about them. They're lined with kevlar, so they must be somewhat good. I've heard they handle crashes pretty well, but offer little ventilation.

I own a pair. I've haven't had to test their crash worthiness yet but I think they will be better than a pair of Levis in a slide. They will be good for one crash only.

I have a set. In my only crash test, I was wearing mesh overpants over them -- the mesh melted, but stayed in one piece, so no effect on the jeans.

They fit me well, look stylish enough (have a nice bootcut flare for my Sidi Verts), and breathe slightly worse that any jeans of that weight denim (think Lee), due to the Kevlar layer. Perfect if you need to be reasonably presentable at your destination and don't have or don't want to deal with a suit or overpants.

One concern is that the structural elements are stitched denim. In a violent crash these may come apart. Also, they have no armor; you can get a kit.

I own a pair and I really like them. They're MUCH cooler than wearing textile pants, but they no havey no armor. I bought a pair of Bohn knee / shin pads and I plan to take them to a tailor and have them sewn into the Draggin Jeans.

I'm sure they would do decent if your get off is slide oriented. In the event of a rapid decel courtesy of some large, immovable object, I think I'm in for some broken bones...

I remember when they first came out. I thought the pads were very thick and prominent on the pant. I had to say no to them cause I don't think I want to look like a guy with a feminine apple shaped rear end in jeans while riding my bike. goofy.gif

Yep - got a pair, but haven't had a spill in them... yet.

There is knee armour available which has velcro to hook onto the kevlar inserts. Haven't tried these, but will give them ago in the near future.

They did some promo testing here in AU where they towed a guy behind a rail (drag car) at the strip. Basically, the guy wearing the jeans hung onto a rope and sat on his arse and got dragged done the 1/4 mile at over a hundred and something klicks an hour. And then did another half a dozen pases. His arse survived, the jeans looked a little second hand, but did their job.

Oh and they're OK comfort wise too. In fact, I wore mine to work today and will wear them all day. They don't breath as well as normal jeans (as they are heavier) and the cut is a bit naff, but all in all they are just like any other pair of jeans.

I put knee armor in by having the tailor essentially make a pocket between the Kevlar and the denim in the knee area. They cut the kevlar at the top of the knee(creating the pocket) and the knee armor slips in and stays in place. I had them sew velcro along the top of the kevlar and denim pocket so that it can be closed once the armor is in. You can take the armor out when you wash the pants so it works pretty well. I got some GP type knee armor that fits great.

This way atleast, I've got decent knee protection. The knee armor that they sell along with the Draggin jeans doesn't work to well with just the velcro on the armor attaching directly to the Kevlar. It seemed to me that it could shift around too much and wasn't very comfortable either.

I unfortunatley crash tested a pair recently. I had Icon knee/shin armor on underneath which totally protected my right knee as I landed on it, slid, and tumbled. Four holes torn through denim (to be expected) but the kevlar lining was totally intact. 1 of the holes was above my armor and i did not have any evidence on my skin and the 3 tears over the armor left no marks on the plastic shell, so Kevlar lining is apparently pretty tough stuff. The top corner of the left rear pocket tore away at the seam just a little, but I didn't really slide on my butt. I did get a 1.5 inch circle of road rash on my right hip where the waist band was pulled down off hip. A hole was worn between front and right belt loop on waistband through the front layer of denim but not a second layer behind it before getting forced out of the way. There is no kevlar there but the denim's double thickness there probably would have done the trick. I like the comfort and stlying of the jeans and plan on sewing the holes shut and keep on riding.
As an alternative to Draggin Jeans or similar, I also just got a pair of Icon field armor shorts in the mail today. I figure since I already have the leg armor I can now wear any pair of pants with great protection. I also have leather Dianese pants that zip into jacket I was wearing when I went down.

If you are bored and want to know how rest of gear fared:
My nice Dainese leather jacket took some major damage on right shoulder. The seam over the hard armor was ground away as was some of the leather, scuffing the hard armor. The whole right sleeve received major rash on top and bottom of forearm, tearing leather in a number of spots of elbow/forearm armor. Left elbow/forearm had some damage too. Joe Rocket Phoenix gloves--trashed. Burned right through right palm but not a mark on my hand. Left thumb big knuckle burned thru reinforement patch and took a few layers of skin in a little circle. Middle finger popped out thru side of glove finger with minor scuff on nail. Toes of both boots leather completely ground thru to hard armor .Somehow, helmet never touched the pavement. My shoulder hurt like heck for a few weeks but is recovered now. My once pristine VFR was ridable the few miles to the house. Cracked front cowl. Scuffed edge of fender. split right cowl along upper edge and serious rash. dent in tank under tank bag magnet, Rt brake lever and foot peg disappeared, rear brake bent a little, crankcase cover dented, broke bracket on oil pan for cowl fastener and evap can, rt radiator had a couple cooling tubes minor dent but ok for now, rear peg ground but usable which protected tail cowl from major damage, although it still was scuffed very heavily along the sharp outer edge. I have a big pile of brand new plastic and assorted hardware ready to install this week. Plus a touring Laminar Lip I haven't installed yet. Can't wait to get back on road.
I am new to the VFR and love it. I live 45 minutes south of Atlanta for anyone needing an occassional riding partner. I am hoping to hit north GA and NC mountains very soon. Hope to make the Dragon in Sept.

How would you rate your Dainese gear in general?

I have a pair of the draggin jeans as well .. comfortable enough though I found that they are a bit rough on the upper leg in a long ride. So wear longer underwear -- either boxers or the kind that look like tight shorts.

I simply cut the top of the kevlar pocket in the knees and inserted knee armor .. fits perfectly.

How would you rate your Dainese gear in general?

I bought a a very nice 2 piece set of leathers, a cordura jacket with zip out insulated liner and zip off sleeves, pair of boots, and gloves from a small but well stocked store in Vicenza, Italy back in 97 when I was in the military. Prices were a little cheaper than comparable Dianese prices in states (Dianese seems to be fairly expensive anyway) and I was able to get a waiver not to pay duty tax returning to states. I used it all for 1.5 yrs with my first bike, 92 CBR 600 and was very satisfied with all the gear although glove palms too thin and actually wore thru from use.
After a 7 yr break I am back with my VFR and still enjoying the gear. I have Tour Master Scarab RR gloves coming as replacements. I have added Joe Rocket Phoenix mesh, and am seriously considering JR Sonic to replace Dainese if I can't get it patched up properly. A new HJC CS-12 came with the bike and fits my noggin well. I am still seriously considering Shoei RF-1000, also fits so nice like my original X-9 that I dropped and broke. sad.gif

Iron Pony has the Teknic style jeans same kevlar and what not on sale $40!!! I plan on using mine but also wearing something over them, nothing protects like leather.

I bought a set of Dragin Jeans off FotoMoto on here and wear them under my overpants on longer rides. They are nice and comfortable, but have no padding on them, but they will help keep the rash off the common parts. Knees and butt, are the two locations of the kevlar patches, they are pretty large, The knee goes all the way across the front and is about 14 inches tall and the endire but area is covered.

Take a look at the ICON line of products.
You might find something you like.
A lot of my friends whear the ICON pants and swear by them.
Cost...about $80.00.

Own 2 pair of Draggin's ...they are really comfortable since they're a year old and been washed a lot (hot,thick at first).They get less stares than the leather J/Rockets when you just want to grab something to eat, etc.A little more piece of mind than plain Wranglers but still no impact protection.Have no crash-test data...prefer not to participate in the program wheel.gif
