Googling for "kevlar underwear" results in pages of jokes and sarcasm. I'm actually looking for a vendor. Any links to vendors would be appreciated.

You'd think for $80 they would mention the material. Do you happen to know if it's kevlar?

Why not wear Dragg'in type jeans(kevlar) under their chaps?

This way they not only get kevlar butt protection but in the knees/outer thigh areas as well. About the same price as the ICON shorts with more protection idea3.gif

I have some Alpinestar jeans and I think they have kevlar stuff in them. It's some black material. They work well, but the removable knee armor always seams to ride up onto my thighs while riding!! ANNOYING.

I believe it is made from aramid.

Aramid fiber (1961) is a fire-resistant and strong synthetic fiber. It is used in aerospace and military applications, for "bullet-proof" body armor fabric, and as an asbestos substitute. The term is a shortened form of "aromatic polyamide".

A well-known type of aramid fiber (a para-aramid nylon) is commonly known by its DuPont trade name, Kevlar, or Teijin trade name Twaron. It was developed by Stephanie Kwolek. An especially fireproof meta variant is Nomex.

I agree, kevlar jeans are better. But cheaper? Good kevlar jeans w/ a 10 yr warranty costs $300 USD. I'm just now remembering that seen lower quality kevlar jeans for half that price before (I think they were Draggin' jeans).. I should reconsider those since I do have a budget. The Icon shorts (of unknown material) are $80, so they're half the price of the cheapest kevlar jeans I've seen. Hopefully more options will surface in this thread. My plan was to buy several pairs of kevlar underwear, for myself and to hand out as relatively cheap gifts (as compared to full armor).

My objective with this thread is to find kevlar underwear, which could even be worn in combination with any other kind of armor. Riders need not choose between kevlar underwear and kevlar pants (they can have both). The real comparison is kevlar underwear vs. cotton underwear.

Thanks! Very informative. I think Kevlar is the greatest invention in fabrics, so it's nice to know there is a generic alternative.

So what I'm really after is aramid underwear, and whether it happens to be the Kevlar brand, I don't care. The stretchy kind (sold by www.motoport.com for example) is probably the only form that would be comfortable rubbing against someones nut sack.
