I managed to rip a seam on both my jacket and pants due to torn threads. What is the best way to approach the problem, repair or replace. I have rash all over the leathers, but would be willing to live with it if its worth having restiched?
If the leather itself is still good, then I don't see why you could get it restitched. You'll probably need to take it to shop that speciallizes in repairing and sewing leather clothing (jackets, shoes, etc). You'll want to have the repair doubled (or even better triple) stitched for added duribility and to help prevent the seams from ripping in an accident.
Shoe repair shops have been restiching the seams in my leathers that I bought in 1984 every time I need it!
Repairs can be expensive, but worth doing.
I crash-tested my Teknic jacket when it was only three weeks old, and since then I've had it repaired numerous times, the last of which involved a partial leather overlay on the sleeves and shoulders. Repairs and alterations cost more than half of the initial purchase price, but were very much worth it.
My old pants (leather) cost ~$220 more than ten years ago, and I've had them repaired too (zips replaced, lining replaced, abraded seam restitched, new belt, replacement armour). They're probably 'worth' nearly twice what I paid for them.

After my low side, I took my obviously-used pants ($28 new on eBay) to a place that specializes in all types of repairs, mostly boat and camper canvas. The very nice woman that owns the place repaired my textile pants, putting everything back to new condition. She also checked over my leather jacket and gloves for weak seams. Didn't charge me a dime!

My point is check around for local canvas shops. I'm SURE you won't get the deal I did but they'll probably fix them for next to nothing.
I've had good luck with local shoe repair guys for boot, jackets and whatever leather repairs. biggrin.gif
