Could Look Like Lady Godiva On A Vfr

I have used Joe Rocket products for several years now with no problems. Not the case this year though. I bought a leather Honda Repsol jacket in March(had the bike). The stitching that holds the zipper in has started to completely unravel along with some letter & panel stitching(not as bad). Bought new Honda high cuff team gloves in June. Right glove already has hole in main body from stitch unraveling/ strap coming loose on left one. Old (3yrs) JR Blaster leather pants are fine. Compared workmanship today. Pants are completely rolled/ triple stitched. Jacket has some RTS but also (problem areas) single stitching. Had a ICON Motorhead jacket for 2 years...no probs. Bought new ICON again today while shop repairs the JR stuff. Called JR today, was told "isolated incident". Asked how often I ride and could I estimate mileage on jacket after replying "almost daily". Probably 6400 on jacket, 4500 on gloves. Given e-mail address to present problem, but told probably not much can be done. E-mailed at 7:41 AM today...so far still no response. This is a large member Site, so is my case an isolated incident or have others noticed the quality drop in JR products also ??? I hope I get a positive response by tomorrow because I spoke to no one today that seemed concerned at all. pissed.gif

I have a pair of Alter Ego pants that have a stitching issue and they told me that I could wait till the end of the riding season if I wanted to to have the repairs done.

Have you called them?

Maybe you just caught them on a bad day.

I've found Alpinestarts to be better quality personally. Or Dainese. I had a JR jacket and just never felt safe in it. Then, I see it trashed in a crash thread. I can say I feel good about giving it away, AFTER I run out and warn the guy I gave it to!! Never tried their leather though.
I have an Icon motorhead jacket, too, and it's held up very well.

Yeah, another disturbing issue. They have always been courteous/ helpful. I bought Orbit boots to wear to/from work. Left one was tight(only tried on right at store). Finally measured them and left was wrong size. They took me at my word...sent new pair from distributor 1 day before I got old ones back to the store for return per instructions. I hope I have an e-mail/ call today. Yesterday was like dealing with a totally different company. unsure.gif

I am not overly impressed with JR. I prefer Teknic for the mid range stuff. If money wasn't an object A-Stars makes some great stuff as does Dainese.

I had an issue with my Ballisitic pants, but its nothing major, the little tabs that hang off the zippers are flimsy and brittle, I have broken two of them, making zipping up and down the legs a little bit of a pain. Otherwise, great stuff, I have had a Ballistic Jacket for over 5 years and its been great.

I bought a 2-pc High Side suit (bad name, IMO) in 2003. I should have taken advantage of the warranty...
The stitching between the fake rippled leather and the stretch material on the inside of the left knee was never right. It helps the ventilation, though. I could probably hand stitch it closed, though.

Having my gloves done myself at leather jacket factory in Lynchburg. Nice lady (finally) named Maryanne at JR trying to help me get something done about the jacket.......we will see unsure.gif

I dont care for JR products, they source a lot of items overseas where the quality is not controlled so well. My Boots were assembled in Afganistan, not so bad but did not last the entire season. My buddy Craig has a JR jacket 4 years ago it came apart in a gettoff involving a deer, he wont touch another JR product ever! I have heard great things about the alterego, but I have never seen one. CE protection and water proof?

I just said hell with the cheap stuff and saved up for a stich, never regretted that decision. Took me months but I got one, and then another later when I sold the old one for a better fitting one I have now.

Now I am looking for a leather competiton quality suit, but not anytime soon!

I have gone with the JR Speedmaster line for my jacket, pants and gloves. So far all are great. I acutally got ever piece used on E-Bay and have had no problems with them falling apart. The jacket is excellent. Their red color matches my 2001 VFR perfectly. The speed hump is of course a conversation piece no matter where I am. It is perforated with a liner and right now in Vermont it is coming in handing. The quality is great IMO. I did go with the leather zip in pants which again I got used and are in good shape.

My favorite piece are my gloves. The look great and look to be well made, I hope I never have to test them! I did look and try on the Speedmaster boots but was totally not impressed. They didn't fit well and did not look to be well made. I ended up going with Alpinestar SM-4 boots which are fantastic.

I have been watching a fair number of MotoGP races and notice alot of Alpinestar leathers and Dainese, they probably work fing02.gif

I own and have owned quite a bit of JR stuff over the years. Alter Ego stuff, very versatile and long lasting. The one problem I had with a zipper on an Alter Ego jacket was taken care of in less than two weeks. No problems with gloves or anything else owned by JR.

I just recently bought another mesh jacket from them... which seems to be very upopular these days given all the JR bashing on this site. Sorry guys, but majority of my riding is the daily in-town commute and NO WAY would I wear leather or an Aerostitch or anything black in this climate. I see guys around here wearing leather jackets/jeans and majority of them have it completely unzipped... so what's the sense in that?

For my infrequent touring runs, until some company comes out with a versatile, complete suit that competes with the Alter Ego stuff, and doesn't require one to take a second mortgage out on, I'm sticking with it... not much to pack and ready for just about any climate... I will say I tried on some Belstaff stuff during BikeWeek and I really liked it, so I may be investing in some of that next year...

Anyway... service with them seems to be on par with anything else I've worn, No complaints here. YMMV.

Really like my new Icon jacket better...but I still hope they do something about the Repsol jacket..... unsure.gif

I have the JR speedmaster pants and the Sonic 2 perfed jacket. No problems with either so far. I also have an Icon Daytona jacket that I use for cooler weather. That thing is awesome. Very thick leather. Very heavy. Warm. Well made. I'd say the Icon jacket is better quality that the JR jacket, even though I have no problems so far with the JR jacket. The speedmaster pants however are thick and heavy too. Nice liner. I feel confident with them. I never did care much for the JR gloves though.

I had a JR Ballistic Jacket that totally destroyed itself in the washing machine last year. I had three seasons on it, so I figured it didn't owe me anything, but I still wont buy any more JR stuff. The Ballistic pants I have have zipper problems and the stiching above the knee pad is unraveling.

I have purchased the superego jacket as well as the alterego pants, although they are brand new and have not been used, first impressions are quite could, fit and finsh seem excellent and the duel purpose of being able to have a solid leather jacket in normal weather, then mesh front in hot conditions seems hard to beat. I guess from this thread it might be worth giving a progress report at the end of the season

I'm really pleased with my Honda CBR Textile that I just purchased. It seems well made and fits me really well. I have no illusion that it is built to the same spec as the higher ended equipement, but all and all I'm pretty pleased.

Summers in Texas are hot so something with air flow helps. I had my heart set on the JR Honda HRC perforated leather jacket but now I'm not so sure. $350 bones for that thing. Its perforated leather but that doesn't do that well in the Texas heat.

I like Vanson and Dianese. Very nice quality but at $600+ a jacket, I can't afford it. Back to the drawing board for now. I may have to wait another year before I do it. Not a lot of point buying it now when the weather starts getting a little more bearable in a month or two.

Have 7 month old Honda Repsol JR W/ small stitch prob, can be sewn by shop if no warranty success.....size 44.....$200/ retail is $499, keepin my new ICON.... beer.gif
