I was thinking of buying a tinted face shield for my Shoei RF-1000, where is the best place to buy 'em?

I went on Ebay and bought a mirror one. It was the lowest price. Just type in Shoei 1000 shield. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/491.gif)

How do you guys like the silver shields? I've heard they scratch super easy.

Shoei helmets are extremely popular and generally in stock at most shops. Throw your local store a $20 bone. I own OEM, both a clear and a tinted. These do not scratch easily with proper care.

That is what i was planning on doing, but they wanted $40 or so for the shield, and i didn't know if i could find them cheaper online.

I've run a couple of mirrored shields on my Shoei and while I like the look, they do look pretty crappy after a couple of years with chips, scratches, etc. For longer life (as far as looking good) the normal tinted ones hold up better.

Love the silver mirror shield for my rf1000.. Been using them for 4-5 yrs. If you use ONLY a nice terry cloth rag and Honda spray cleaner, you'll get a perfect shield and they don't scratch very easily with proper care. Can be used at nite with minor vision problems. I would use a clear at nite and always my Mirror her in the FLA sunshine.

newenough carries them, but only a few dollars off at $35, but I think they have a $12 shipping credit on them right now!

Where did you see that information??

Which part? if you mean the shipping part, here:

Yes, the shipping part. Doesn't look like it applies to the shield though, only the helmet.

That's for the mirrored ones and another reason I don't use them! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Me too.
My old helmet is an AGV X-Vent, which came with a clear shield and a dark neutral tint with gold mirror finish - brilliant visor! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fing02.gif)
So, when we bought my wife's Shoei Raid, she wanted a visor like it, but the only equivalent one was the iridium one, which wasn't dark enough (UnZud sunlight / UV is VERY strong). It also cost NZ$129, c.f., about NZ$56 for the AGV ones.
So, when I bought my RF1000 (called an XR1000 here), I bought the dark tint one instead, and that was NZ$68, IIRC. Nowhere near as dark as the AGV one, so I may need to wear sunglasses with it in summer.

The AGV visor stood up to 3 or 4 years of abuse (and it was secondhand when I got it), including being bumped into things, being hit by stones, and a faceplant on the sidewalk. Apart from NEVER using paper towels on it, I didn't really treat it carefully.

its not that. i swear by them and have been using the same one, virtually un-marred for over a year. but the local cycle shop sells them for 48 bucks. or at least they did.
