Roof helmet

I had seen this helmet reviewed in a bike mag back during the summer and it was rated Very Highly. �Anyone ever seen one in person ? �I think it looks wicked, especially the Boxer (the one I'm looking at. It has'nt been DOT or Snell approved yet but it is �ECE 22-05 and BSI 6658 type A ranked which means it's Race Approved and supposidly it's one of Europes hottest selling lids. �BSI 6658 uses the same standards as SNELL so I think it would measure up. �

Tell me what ya think. �I think I'll be ordering it before Spring..

It kinda has a space alien look to it :p  You wont have the same old helmet everbody else is wearing :squid:  I must be getting old :shake:

They are definitely cool looking.  My only concern is that I will not buy a helmet if I have not tried it on first.  I got burned with a Shoei that I bought that was too big.  Buyer beware I guess.

One thing you might have to watch out for with the Roof "boxer" model helmet, if you are considering that model, is the possibility of it being noisier and more prone to lift and buffetting than conventionally shaped helmets. The Roof was meant more as a styling statement for the "streetfighter" crowd, where looks take the number one priority when it comes to gear. So, the result might look good, but those shapes were mostly modelled on aircraft helmets which were meant to be worn in the more pleasant interiors of a cockpit and not hours out in the airstream like bike helmets. Personally, I'd only consider the "Diversion" model for biking it has the smoothest look to it, so it should be much quieter and stable than the boxer. And it looks the coolest in their lineup anyway IMO. Some guys don't mind helmet noise for the looks though. Take for example, the Arai Rxx7 top of the line helmet (a way- overpriced, hyped upped helmet IMO). You hear tons of complaints from riders about the excessive noise that the now famous and copied overhead vent scoops on the Rxx7 make. A lot of guys would keep these Arais anyway, cause it's what the famous racers wear. :shake: Sure I'd wear one too, only if Arai would give me hundred of thousands of dollars to do so..........just like those famous racers!. :beer:

Yuk, yuk, and more yuk. Where are the vents? Not Snell/DOT approved, can't race with it on. Buy a good Shoei or Arai and be done with it. I can't speak highly enough about my Shoei X-11. The venting on this helmet is second to none, not even the Arai. And I guess I must be getting old too.   :cool:

ROOF Helmets rock! �I've had mine for about 3 or 4 months now. �Here's my tale:

Well my new ROOF came in the mail last night. �The good people at Trick Tape were nice enough to send me one so I could decide if it was for me.

I tend to wear large in Shoei or Arai helmets, but all they had in stock were mediums so I figured I'd try it out. �The helmet is pretty round in shape and the medium fits me perfect. �It's pretty snug now, but I know when the padding squishes some, it'll fit a little less snug and be 100% perfect. �I think a large would actually get too loose after time. �It's a fairly round helmet so the front of the chin bar seems closer than my old Arai, but not so much as to make me fell closterphobic(sp?) or anything like that.

Quality looks to be first rate and the paint is really nice and deep. �I'm not going to go crazy and say it's better than Arai or Shoei and that everyone in the world should own one, but it looks to be just as good as those two and much better than some of the HJC, ICON, and others that I've tried on in the past week. �Weight is awesome and much lighter than anything else I've worn. �It's also 100x quiter than the RX7 Arai I've been wearing and a bit quieter than the Signet GT I have. �Ventilation seems to work well and the switches don't seem cheap. �It also comes with a nice removeable chin bar curtian for colder riding. �Shield change will require a screwdriver or quarter to remove the side pod and while that's not as nice as the Shoei system, it's still better than the Arai "I think I broke it" way.

It definately does get the looks from people too. �I hit 4 stop lights on my way to work in the morning and had 3 people ask me what kind it was on the way in. �I think I'll just print out some business cards to make it easier.

Couple of complaints, but both are minor. �There isn't a tab or anything like that on the face shield so you have to put your hand/glove directly on the shield to close/open it and there are no notches in the shield path to sort of lock it in a partly open position. �I don't really see either as a big problem espically the latter since the shiled is farily stiff in it's up and down movements. �One last thing, and it's only because I'm stubborn, the seatbelt type latch works just fine, but I'd be happier with a traditional D ring set up.

As a side note to red VFR owners, the red is about a 95% perfect match to the Honda paint :D

I want that MOMO soso BAD!  I love it!  I just bought a Shoie RF-900.  What a great lid!

Count me in for a MOMO. I've been fsihing for one on ebay for a while. A yellow one was offered for a decent price ($250.00) just recently, but I'm looking for a black one! It will look nice next to the best looking helmet on my shelves. My beloved Dianese first edition Ergon with the red silver and black "logo" motif.

I know that the www.tricktape.com site is supposed to be carrying the MOMO helmets, but I haven't heard any owners opinions on the yet.

For some reason, I think it looks like something out of a Japanese Anime series like Pokemon or something.

Even though it looks radical now, I am sure in ten years we will all be wearing this design. :squid:

The website is pitiful. Are they intended to be motorcycle helmets? There's no mention of any standards or materials of construction or anything. They look like toys, frankly, or maybe bicycle helmets.

I agree with you GeorgiaVFR, I love the look of the Roof.  I'd seen them in the British mags and immediately liked the look of it.  I'm really interested to see if they are quieter and anti-fog out of the box.  But they look trick- better than my Arai.

I'd buy it but can't justify spending $400 for a second helmet. :cool:

Tod, that's a big 10-4 on them being quieter.  It is, without a doubt, the quietest helmet I've got.  My normal lid before was a Signet from Arai and the ROOF Diversion is much quieter.  
Fogging isn't an issue either.  I've been riding through 38 degree weather with not a hint of fogging.  A

side from picking up the new Arai XD helmet for some dual sport riding, I'll definatley be getting another Roof for my street helmet when the one I have now needs replacing.

First flash through my brain when I saw the boxer......A yellow storm trooper from Star Wars.  No thanks, looks too gimmicky to me. Put me in with the rest of the senior citizens I guess.

I've always liked the comfort of an Arai- it really envelopes you with the padding and for me, that's feels secure.  How does the Roof feel compared to that?

I've always, and still love the fit of my Arai Signet GT.  It's a large and fits really snug on my head.  I ended up with a Medium in the ROOF and it fits just perfect.  The ROOF has really good padding that really seems to hold onto your entire head well.  I rode with an [older] HJC for a while and found the lining material to be a few steps lower in quality than the Arai.  I can say that the ROOF material is just as plush and nice as the Arai is.
