This is a great alternative between oil derived synthetic jackets and dead cow hide jackets.
If someone besides Joe Rocket was doing this I would be more interested, I got burned on workmanship issues with a Blaster 7.0 jacket of theirs and won't go back. Plus they don't have "tall" sizing available on this thing so it's pointless for me to bother with anyway.

You could never pay me enough to wear an relatively untested Joe Rocket product like this. I'm all for going green as much as possible but placing your life in the hands of chinese stiched hemp fiber is just mentally challenged. Flame away.

Interestingly (or perhaps not) at one stage it was compulsory to grow hemp as a crop in the US, as there was a shortage of it for rope making and the like.

Yeah we still have bit off a grey area in our laws, the selling, owning small amounts and smoking is legal. The production/importation is not...
The low grade is grown for its fibre here as well.
Due to the recession, there is an increase in farmers fields having a little special field inside the corn.....
So the plod use helicopters to scout the land.....

That was positively reviewed in this month's Green issue of Motorcyclist, though I'm not particularly fond of the worksmanship of any Joe Rocket product I've had-- they are keeping my local tailor in business, though.

I picked up a JR leather jacket and pants at Newenough and I'm really happy with them. I know some have had issues with the brand, especially the mesh jackets, but their stuff seems to fit me better than most brands.
I'd be interested in the jacket if it came in some better colors.

I have a Joe Rocket textile jacket and have had good luck with it. It is "Meteor", I want to say 5.0. I use it to commute in and it works well, easy to clean (front load washer), plenty of vents and has held up well going on 3 years. I do however use a Cortech perforated leather, "Coaster Air" jacket and "Apex Air" pants for my "fun / sport" riding and really prefer them. I find the Cortech stuff to really well made and comfortable. The Hemp is an interesting idea though and if I needed a new textile rig I would consider it.
I have been wearing a Joe Rocket touring synthetic jacket, the one I was wearing in Dillon, for five years now, no problems, fading a bit from too much direct sunlight. I'm not sure if I'm lucky, but this jacket has been comfortable and reliable. No zipper problems not seam problems, no stitching problems.
By the way, Hemp isn't pot. If anyone is claiming otherwise, they're already high. Read the ad about THC levels in the Joe Rocket Hemp jacket add.

I do like the look of the fieldsheer jacket, I just don't like the huge brand names on any brand jacket. Looks like a great price.

I'm sure this is made outside the US with hemp grown in other countries since it's still illegal in the US to grow industrial hemp. If you think it would be a good idea to grow hemp for fabrics, rope, etc, there is a bill being introduced in congress to allow just that.

I've got a bunch of hemp shirts that I bought in OZ a few years back. Fabulous stuff -- like unfinished cotton. Very strong, but the materia tends to hold odors more than cotton.
For the life of me I can't think of why you'd want to ban industrial hemp, assuming the intoxicating properties have been bred out of it. I'm sure the bill in Congress will pass assuming they rename hemp "American Cotton" or something patriotic to keep the prohibitionists at bay.
I'd love to see if Draggin' Jeans start making riding jeans out of the stuff.

Seriously though, that would be great if we could have an alternative to animal skin (of course this comes from a guy with three Vansons). I think that JR jacket looks nice... Understated (for JR). I hope that they can prove to hold up when they are "needed".
