I just ordered some Tech Spec Grip Skins for my 2002 VTEC, and I am so happy with them that I had to share. I read about them in my new Motor Cyclist, so I decided to check them out. I was looking for something to better help me get locked in, and this is it.
Dean is the guy to talk to. He personally helped me over the phone to find the best kind for my riding style.
If you do any sort of aggressive riding, these Grip Skins will allow you to hold on to the tank so well that you never feel like you are going to slip off. You can feel and respond to what the bike is doing, and it totally frees up your hands to modulate the controls. Braking it so much easier, you never get pushed in to the tank, and you are never forced to put weight on your arms.
Yesterday, I was riding and started to get the burn in my lower rear abs, right where you want to feel it, and my forearms were nice and loose on the bars. It was effortless to connect with the machine and my confidence has gone way up. I cannot recommend these enough.
Grip Skins are inexpensive and removable (and re-appliable). I give them 6 stars out of 5. Get em?.
I read the same article and thought they might be good to try out too. I see they don't have a listing for VFR's. Which one did you buy? And which type; Laser Etch, Snake Skin or High Fusion?
Yes, they do not have a pattern for the Interceptor. I bought the general sheet and then made my own pattern following the tank. I made my contact patches pretty large, but you could get away with less. I'm 6'5" and I have pretty long legs. The High Fusion wasn't out when I ordered mine, so I got the Snake Skin. I think the High Fusion is the most tasteful; it's like rubber skateboard griptape.

I ordered mine last week and have had them on for a few days now.
They went on fairly easy (for a perfectionist it will take a few applications
for the side pieces to get them straight). The instructions mention to make
sure the ambient temperature is around 70 and to use a blow dryer or
heat type gun to make sure the glue sets up properly. I didn't do this as it
was around 45 deg. F outside so I just let the bike warm up to temperature
(gas tank will absorb some of the engine heat) and that worked fine. I let
it sit in the garage over night then the next day they were perfect.
Corners are much easier as I'm not sliding around. The properties of the material
is similar to non-skid place mats on your kitchen table.
A+ product w/ good prices. I bought the VFR800 kit as they must of just added it.
like the idea, but would hate to cover up my purdy red! anyway i guess i never have felt like i was going to slip off. on the other hand i have experianced the "big squeeze" while breaking hard :blink:

I had the ice grip on my VFR for about 3 years. They have really great grip - worked well while they were one, but after several years a few of the corners had started to peel up. Upon removal, I changed my mine about putting another set of the ice grips on my bike. The material had become very brittle. Instead of pulling up, it cracked off like those security stickers that aren't designed to come off in one piece. Even with some heat applied, I ended up having to use a razor blade, and accidentally put a few nicks in my paint.
I replaced them with stomp grips. They're much thicker, more of a rubber material than a tape. I was going to try the snake skin, but my local store didn't carry it.
Just saw this topic... been using these for a couple of years now. You want no part of the fusion... unless you want to replace them every year. Get the snakeskin as they last longer and have a raised area for the contact patch. Not sure about the ice....
