Happy B-day to me... got a new helmet

Yup... I was due. Got this the day before my B-day as a lil gift to myself, hahah. Got to wear it for a whole 2 days before I went down the other day, lol. Luckily though my head never touched the ground so it didn't get a scratch on it, thank god, lol. My beloved Shoei RF-1000, which I still loved to death, after 4 years and 147,000 miles of use, it was just plain wore out. The cheek pads were compressed, the upper liner was coming apart, vents were starting to stick, rear spoiler was coming off (had to epoxy it back on awhile back, lol), seal around the visor leaked when it rained, not to mention both original visors had their fair share of scratches and rock dings, haha. Still though it held up fantastic given the amount of use it got. I didn't even realize how much mine had worn until I went and tried on a brand new RF-1000 of the same size and it was a night and day difference.

I was going back and forth between another RF or trying something else. I had originally decided to just get another RF-1000 since they're all on clearance now for a pretty good price, and went to buy the one I wanted and it had sold already, and no more. So I went with this one instead, as they were about the same price: Scorpion EXO-1000 RPM

Another very cool feature.... built in internal tinted flip down visor. There's a little lever on the left side you just bump it and it flips right down or back up. Works very well too!

It doesn't go all the way down, but it's plenty to keep the sun out of your eyes, and you can still see your gauges clearly

It also has the Everclear fog free visor which works quite well, although I will say even though it doesn't fog at all, it does get moisture buildup and just turns wet, which isn't always much better, lol. The flip down visor is also fog free as well. I also like the permanent cloth chin guard to keep the cold air from going up onto my face. Works alot better than the mesh one on the Shoei's

Overall, I really like it!! Only got to wear it for 2 days, but it's very snug yet still very comfortable, and believe it or not, ALOT quieter than my RF-1000 was. Not the lightest there is but definitely not terrible either. I think I'll be happy with it :)

That's a nice helmet. It was that one which lead me to buy the 400 model, which is my best helmet to date. The only reason I didn't get your 1000 was they don't make one big enough for "My" mellon(XXXL). I have a helmet that has the flip down sun visor, but yours has all the extras that make it one of the best.

It is indeed useful though, especially when it's cold... nice and tight = warm, and this helmet is indeed very warm

I'm considering a Scorpion EXO-400 meself. I've had two HJC helmets, and for the price, they've been good.
I'm of the camp that you need to replace your helmet out in say 5 years... it gets a little gamey inside, and I think there is a shelf life on protective gear. Using one helmet for your entire riding career isn't a safe idea. I could be entirely mistaken.

I have a SparX S-07. Good build quality, good visor, about average for weight, noise, and everything else. For the price its' quite good. Oh, the top vents don't close, though. Though I'd have to agree that graphic might be a little too much.


Is it just me, or is getting a new helmet bad because you have to now remember how to operate the new vents?

I have the exo 700 and love it but i now wish i waited for the 1000 as the options are great upgrades.

Nice review, thanks. Good to see more and more sun visors getting installed. Just got my HJC IS-16 solely for that reason.

Nice Helmet.

I like the internal sun visor (fighter pilot tech FTW!) and the pump-up cheek pad features.

I'm a big fan of Shoei and hope they come out with some new innovations like this. Shoei's fit my head so perfectly and are so full of nice features and are quiet that I'd like to stick with them if I can. My current helmet, short of calamedy, should last me a few more years. When I'm looking for a new lid, if Shoei does not integrate some of these new ideas, I might switch to another brand that does.

Looks nice, and the scorpion name is one that is respected. I've always loved their displays at shows and races. That cool mecho-look-scorpion sculpture has always made me smile -with the fog machine and all!
