Kid helmet for street - MX or FF?

So for those of you that have kids and have gotten them gear to ride with you, what type of helmet did you get? I have a 12 year old daughter that I would like to start riding with next summer. At first I was set on a conventional FF street helmet, but then began thinking about an MX helmet with a visor to block the sun for her (with goggles of course). What do you think about the safety of that idea? BTW she fits in an adult XS size in most that we tried on. I was thinking about the Bell Vortex (FF street) or the Bell MX-1 Bones (MX). Thanks guys...

I have ridden with my son once with his MX helmet and the Visor was a pain. I guess it depends on which bike your riding. If your riding your cruiser or DS then the MX would be fine any of the others you might want a street helmet. At least until you kid learns to hold them self up and not need to hold on to you like a true pillion.

My daughter is 12 and she has riden with me quite a few times during the past 2 years. She has an HJC AC-12 full face with both a clear and tinted shield.
With a short "how to" on being a passenger and flipping the shield up and down........and a couple of reminders along the way, she's been great company.
I bought her a Cortech jacket also...........she thinks she is bad azz when she wears it :goofy: I think the visor on an MX helmet would be a problem.

I recalled reading an article about SNELL certification for smaller helmets, and how it can have an adverse effect on safety. The article addresses SNELL-2005 as the main culprit, if I remember correctly, and said that the 2010 version follows a different formula, which is fine. Long story short, smaller helmets were required to take the same (not proportional) amount of force, and therefore were harder, causing causing more shock damage in smaller helmets than larger ones.

I bought my son a HJC youth ful lface helmet off of e-bay for $20 (used) in brand new condition. We tried the MX helmet route since he already had one, but I didn't like the visor in my back, and was concerned about how safe it was. Since I already had bluetooth headsets, I picked up another helmet kit (mic and spreaker) for the youth helmet. It is great to be able to talk to him (like hold on, lean with me, or wake up) and he can talk to me (like i'm thirsty or i got to pee). :laughing6-hehe: I think you would be happier with the full face, but thats just my opinion.

FF. and if they cant hold on they cant ride. outside the culdesac...
