Does anyone have any experience with the HJC IS MAX BT? I'm looking for a modular helmet with add on blue tooth capability and this one is in my price range. I've seen a few positive reviews but would love to hear from anyone who owns one!
DON'T DO IT! We bought these helmets when my gf bought her first bike 2 months ago. We thought they would be great for riding tips, etc, on our way down the road. Too bad you can't hear a thing! We rode PCH a few times and one slab ride to LA and back before we decided to return the helmets. They had problems connecting, even when the helmets were right next to each other while we rode 2-up. There was lots of static too. The controls are impossible to manipulate if you're wearing gloves, which we always do. The wind noise was fairly loud, about equal to my other HJC modular (CL-Max, which I love.) We usually wear earplugs, but the little speakers are nowhere near loud enough to use with plugs. Then there's the echo I got to hear of everything I said...
I have an older model of that helmet and love it. I later bought a one-piece full face(Scorpion) which I think is the best helmet I've ever had Fit/noise/air/etc..... But I can't give up wearing my flip-up .... it's just so multi-functional, I use the inside visor 99% of the time.
I did do some mods to the inside visor though...... Cut it to suit me.... Added a dark top strip(one inch or so)on the outside visor for direct sun light...... So the ISV was cut so when I look in my mirrors(and gauges for that matter), I'm NOT looking though the ISV............. The OSV dark strip doesn't come into my line of sight unless I lower my head more than usual........ I wear ear plugs so it's very quiet.
Looking at the shape of the new one, looks even better.

I personally know of a couple that bought a matching set of IS-Max BT Helmet and are terribly dissatisfied with the Bluetooth functionality
If you have a roundish to neutral head consider the AGV Miglia Modular which has an extremely plush Arai-like liner or the Shoei Multitec which is better but almost 3 times more expensive.
The only downside is that none of them have the internal flip-down sunvisor which I have and love on my Scorpiion Modular EXO-900 (Dont buy that - it's poorly assembled and trim pieces are coming off after just 11 months - Scorpion has sent free replacements)
The AGV Miglia is available with an external sunvisor that works well. Just make sure you keep the space between the 2 visors clean and you should be good. It's my current favorite and can be had for about $140 - the external sunvisor is extra at about $ 35.00

Awesome thanks! I came accress the AGV in my research and it's on my list. Will look into the Sena for sure. Some of these helmets are harder to get up in Canada though...we can order them but then there is customs to deal with...I might have to take a ride down after I get my topbox and do some helmet shopping! For now thanks to the comments here I will hold off on the HJC and keep doing my homework. I just bought a set of ear plugs so that should make my crappy GMax bearable for a few more weeks at least. I was hoping to make a decision before the weekend because we have a bike show up in Toronto this weekend, but I don't expect to find any stellar deals anyway...

I've got the Nolan N-103 N-Com and like it quite a lot. Pretty noisy but what modular helmet isn't? It fits well and the color matches the bike fairly well. Mounting the Scala Rider headset was easy also.
For peeps that have or want these helmets, here's a few photos of mod's and things to look out for. I would try to limit the removal of the internal Visor due to the brittle-ness of the prongs that hold the visor in place. Having learned the $$$ hard way, I have found that filing the sharp edge off the half arrow tip helps to let it disconnect easier without having to mess with the connection arrows later(even being careful puts stress on the brittle arrows).
As far as grinding down the ISV I use a bench grinder to get it as close to where I want it as possible, then use files, and finish with sandpaper.
I'd recommend ordering a spare as well. I also got a different colour for better contrast.
Any questions, I'll be glad to elaborate.
I went to the bike show in Toronto today and didn't find any AGVs, but I found a Vega Summit II for $80 so I grabbed it. Lots of wind noise but I plan to use ear plugs anyway, and the fit on this is immensly better than my old GMAX that I bought years ago for my wife the summer we started dating (it was even cheaper than this one!). This will tie me over until I find an AGV or find money for something nicer! I plan to tour the states this year on the bike so it will be easy to find and try on other models :)' I also picked up a decent textile jacket which I was lacking...so I'm ready for the season - just need the matching pants for touring but at least I can start comfortably commuting to work over the next few weeks!
