Question: Givi Wing Rack vs. Tubular Rack

I have a '03; Are there any advantages with one Givi rack type over the other?

I have a Silver 03 with the 3-case non-wingrack setup and find to be very secure, Pics with and without luggage. It has traveled from wisconsin to california and back with this configuration (before I got it). I helped with the original install of the rack and it was easy enough to put on, easier than the wingrack on my old ZX-6. It is also more stable than the wingrack is on the ZX-6 it just had some wobble, it worked great on the road though. I don't know what the wingrack mounting points are for the VFR so I don't know how it compares. I have seen a 6th gen with the wingrack around Madison though.

There is also the SW Moto racks which are removable and look to be a cool option.

I was looking at the Givi Wingrack but I am 99% sure I will be going with the Five Star Top and Side Racks for there ease of removal from the bike.

I will use the top case for commuting and day rides and just throw on the side ones for overnight trips.

I am going with a Givi V46 Top case in flat black with the optional brake light and E360 cases in the R300 bright red for the sides.

I have used the tubular racks with both of my VFR's (99 and 02). The tubular racks been over loaded beyond the max and I've never had a problem with them. The racks have carried E21's as well as E350's. I remember on one camping trip about 6 years ago not only were the E350's loaded with really heavy stuff (metal, liquids...) but then I tied down stuff on top of each of the cases. This was stuff like camping stove, tent, sleeping bags,... I really should have taken a picture as when the site was set up we couldn't believe it all had come off one motorcycle. I even tried tying stuff under the cases the day before but they touched ground turning during a test run in the street. In retrospect, this was obviously NOT the safest thing to do...but the racks held up just fine. I also went with the tubular rack because it's significantly less noticable that the Wing-Rack with the bags off.

To add to his question, what is the difference between the two types of racks? I'm totally confused by the Givi website. There's just too much stuff to choose from.

I'd also love to see a review/comparison between the Hondaline equipment and the Givi equipment. I know Givi makes the Hondaline stuff, but it's my understanding that they aren't compatible.

Ive recently learned the hard way, that the Givi topbox rack is not compatible with the OEM hondaline sidebags.....

With a little bit of re-engineering, I believe that I can make it all work,but it may need some serious 'hacking' of the oem sidebag racks unsure.gif
