I got a track day as a Valentines Day gift from my wife.
Going to VIR to do the South course on May 14th. Wanted to see if any others would be interested in trying to make that date. Could hook up and all pit together.

I rode in three of the NESBA trackdays in Pocono East last year.
Great group of people, I met some people who have lots to tell me about riding on the track. For beginners, I was a little intimidated at first, but after the tires warmed up for a few laps, lead rider in my group moved me up to ride with the intermediate group. . even though I was riding my kick-start-only-Honda XR650R motard bike riding among others with GSXR 750, 1000 and CBR900s.
Excellent time to find out how your bike behaves at the rev-limiter.

I can't wait till May gets here. The chance to ride without having to worry about cops, gravel, dogs, cages...etc will be great. I've got a lot to learn about track riding, but I want to see what kind of performance my bike ( and me ) really have. Our weekend rides are great, but smart riders just don't push that hard on the street.
I'm going to run the stock B20s, then maybe switch to the Diablos after that. I figure if I find the limits of the B20s, I'll have a little safety cussion when I put the sticker tires on. I don't expect that in the Beginer group that we'll be pushing that hard to need more tire than I have now.
I want to get some skills practice out of this. Looking through turns better, smoother control inputs...etc. I know I have a lot of room for improvement, and I've done some reading on the "how to do it". Having a closed course will be great, so I can work on these things.
I've read TWT II and some others. Now I just have put some of those things into practice.
I tend to turn in too early and turn too slowly. I also don't think I look far enough through the corners, but that may be related to turning in too early to some degree.
With some track time I'm hoping to get better at these things primarily. Can't wait till May.
One important technique I learned on teh track is not to look at other riders through the turns.. you only need to be awear of where they are and in case that someone goes down, look for a way to avoid them.. other than that look where you want to go on teh track, not where you don't want to go.
Only mechanical issue that I had with my bike is that I wish I had better brakes, the single-sided 220mm rotor on my XR650R was not sufficient after things started to heat up after repeated hard braking. To slow myself down before the corners, I was standing straight up on my pegs to get more air resistance to slow myself down, that kinda spooked some beginner class riders on the track... but people got used to it through the day. This winter, I got myself a 320mm rotor kit, barely have enough room to put the brake caliper back on the rotor, can't wait 'til it warms up enough to test ride that thing.
