VFR Discussion Group -> OEM Sport Trunk Passenger Comfort

Hey all,

I'm planning on doing some accessorizin' on my VFR this year and #1 on my list is a seat, most likely a Sarget. Thing is I also want to make the bike a little more comfortable for the wife, for taking day trips and such. What she hates about my bike is not having a back rest, she feels like she's gonna fall off. So, rather than get a Corbin with back rest, I was thinking about getting the OEM Sport Trunk because it says it has a backrest on it. I feel like I'd get more use out of this mod than buying a Corbin with a backrest and from what I've heard, the Sarget seat is better than the Corbin. My question is, can I get some opinions on the the Sport Trunks comfort level for a passenger?

Sorry could not resist, yea its comfy, but she will have to lean back to use it, as the thing is sort of at the very end of the seat. Better than the corbin cause you can put all her "crap" in the box too. LOL Opps did I say that?

Yeah, if I'm not to careful, she'll start decorating the inside of it, that'd be bad... very bad.

I have the OEM trunk box. It's a very nice piece. She seems to like the back rest, no complaints so far. She does have to sit back a bit to take advantage of it, which leaves about 4-6" between us, all good. I forget she's back there sometimes.

We used it on a trip to Ottawa last summer, about 1000kms round trip, and we were able to pack about 2-3 days worth of clothes. She packed the box before I got home from work so we could get a quick start, but she ignored the 20lbs max weight sticker on the inside, she had more like 40lbs in it.

Man, I had no idea you could fold underwear that small! :D

Does the OEM top case use a standard GIVI mount? I've been debating picking one up for use on my '96. I have a Givi Wingrack, with two E360's, but for a longer trip the third bag might be nice.

I have one too, but haven't installed the backrest. The backrest on the OEM topcase is a flimsy, thin little thing, maybe a 1/2" thick at best.
Not the same as the 1 or 2" thick one you'd get by buying the optional one from GIVI.
I guess I could buy one of their's too!
