Some people were getting some great deals a few months ago by buying mail order from Canadian dealerships. If I remember it was about $500 or $600 for new bags.
That's funny, your garage looks like mine! I have a red '02 and my wife's Ninja used to be green! :lol: Of course, now its pearl yellow after an untimely accident, but that's another story.
I got scratched up silver bags for $450 off eBay. (Yes, Mr. Frugal was bidding against me, and yes I sniped it out from under him.) I repaired the plastic, plugged the hole for the reflector, and painted them black.
Just a thought. Every now and then someone puts a set up for sale that way...
Does anyone know of a way - short of hawking eBay for deals that come up on used bags - to save on the purchase of the Honda Hard Bags?
If its a grand then its a grand, but maybe there's a commonly known deal?

Last I heard all the Canadian dealers were out of the hardbags so ordering from them may not be your best option.
If you're lucky, you're near a dealership that will pricematch, like the one near me. You'll get them for the same price that others got them from Canada...without the shipping charges.

On the Ninja, Shipfixer - it was part of a grand plan. To get my wife riding. Bought it from one of her GIRLFRIENDS who lost her job and needed out of bills. Never caught on. I'm 6'3" 200 lbs, imagine riding this thing. But - I do it anyway. This bike will go 120! Redlines at 15K. Happy around 13,500. Its a blast...
David Silver Spares over in the UK sells them for much less than the US dealers do. Looke 'em up on the internet. I know a couple of guys on this board have purchased OEM hard bags from them.
I'm one of 'em who ordered my bags from Davis Silver Spares. They were great to work with and I saved about $200 from buying them in the US (including the shipping from the UK). PLus, the euro bags don't have the ugly-@ssed reflector, either.
But the exchange rate is a bit worse now then when I ordered the bags 2.5 years ago. Give David Silver Spares an email and see how much it'll cost ya....they were very prompt in replying to my emails.
I purchased mine from Arizona Motorsports for $499 - brand new but a "scratched during shipping" return. I chanced on the deal on their website and could not pass it up. The reg price is $830 and you can get a 10% discount by mentioning you belong to this group.

You'll love the bags, I have a set too. Easy on and off. Can use them like suitcases when traveling.

I just popped over to their site and had a look...They list the bags at �450. The current exchange rate put this at about $850. S&H from the UK would probably add $100 to that. :(

My wife *really* wanted this bike. When we got married she didn't have a vehicle so I bought this for her...gave her the option between a bike and a car and she wanted the bike. Now she wants something bigger, but we're waiting till we can pay out of pocket for the bike she wants instead of another little step up.
I'm about the same size you are and I ride hers every now and then (you know, cause wives never really tell us about mechanical problems! :lol: ). It scared me at first because I was riding around on the bottom of the rear shock and the front wasn't far from being the same way.
When she dropped it I took that as reason enough to re-do everything. I put Progressive springs in the front and a Ninja 600 pneumatic shock in the rear...the guys on Ninja250.net said that was way better than a GS 500E shock, so I got one off eBay for something like $30. Did the valves, traded the obnoxious F1R's it came with for F1's, repainted the thing...
Now it rides like a motorcycle instead of a scooter! :wheel: I need to do the airbox mod on it so it'll stop drinking oil on the highway, and I have to replace the radiator because it took a rock and its leaking slowly (got one off eBay for $15), but that's about it.
Beginning to hate working on this bike, but I sure appreciate how cheap the parts are!
