SW-MOTECH Quick-Lock Sideracks

Planning a trip in May and looking at Givi tubular racks or SW Motech sideracks for my VFR 99. Saw a few posts on installation but nothing on how the SW racks are working out. I will get Givi hard bags of some sort - probably the 21s to start.

Is is really that easy to get the bags and then the SW racks off ? Are they sturdy enough? I have only found one place to buy them - twistedthrottle. Is there anybody else out there who sells SW motech?

Do you have pearls regarding pros and cons for the SW Motech versus the Givi tubular.

Having no experience with the SW Motech racks I can only state that my GIVI tubular racks have held up well. I used them on my 99 VFR and use a new set of the same racks on my 02 VFR. I would have used the racks off my 99 but they simply won't fit to a 2002+ VFR. Having used the E21's and E360's I highly recommend them both . I would like to get rid of the racks for my 99 if you're interested. They're in perfect condition but might be missing a screw and nut which one could purchased easily. If you're interested let me know.

Ha Ha. Must have missed you somehow. I honestly have not even thought about selling them and have all but forgot that I even have them.

What version GIVI tubular do you have? I understand they went to a newer style and you have to buy the top rack now too. Do you have the top rack as well?

Still interested in Motech but I am going to be up in your area in a couple of weeks anyway so I may have it sorted out by then.

I had SW motek racks on my Hayabusa. They took all of 30 seconds to remove. Very nice set up. Also retained a bear stock look with the racks off. Only had small tabs visable. Very sturdy rig

Scot this looks very clean - Was it possible to swap the SWs over to your VFR from your Hayabusa or are the racks bike dependent.

Any 5th Gen VFR SW installs out there?

they are bike specific. I imagine I couldhave done it with some fabrication but elected not to.

Thanks Scot. Looks like not many have gone the SW Motech route on their VFRs. Maybe I will just take my chances.

I have the SW Motechs for my 6th gen and they work great. They are really easy to get on and off and they hold the Give E41 bags I overload well. Only problem I see is that they give the ass end a much wider appearance and you can't eliminate the fender because that is where one of the rack structures mounts. Overall I am very satisfied with the way they work. Additionally, because they hold the bags away from the bike you can probably put anykind of exhaust on there that you want.

Thanks Quicknidk - Would you recommend another bag to eliminate the "ass" problem like E360s? Broad beams can be problem for many things!

Actually I have the same setup but did do the fender removal. The brace that runs horizontally across the back end doesn't support any weight, it is just for stability and I have found that as long as it is still connected to the side supports, nothing really changed without the rear fender being there! Does make for a "wide load" setup, buy hey, that is why I went this route. When I want to haul something the bags will do that, and when I don't, I don't have a big ugly rack system hanging on the back!
