Yup it was a workday, Yup it was 70 degrees out in march, Yup I was up all night working, Yup I had to be back to work at 7pm.....oh boy it was warm. I hopped on the bike and headed for Morrison where my ridding buddy of a year or so Steve Farson planned a get the hell out of Dodge sort of ride on the fly go as the weather goes sort of ride. I was wired on Dr Pepper and the excitement of riding my Viffer up north for a change.
There in Morrison I met a few new friends and a couple of Old ones, Steve of course riding his XX, Chris on his new KRX, Joe on a Beamer, Blake on a CBRRR, and TooFastXX on an XX of course. A short meet and greet and we were in the twisties in no time, Bear Creek Canyon is wonderfully twisty and at that time of the morning it was absolutely clear, maybe only 4 cars either way!!! It was great, turned off at Kittridge and headed south on Parmalee Gultch road for a bit more excitement, then I took lead to 67 and Woodland Park. I kept it sane as that road has a habit of tossing me off my bike when I don't respect those gravely turns.
Awesome vid. I am so jealous. We're in a cold spell here in southern Indiana plus I'm recovering from rotator cuff surgery, so no riding for a couple more weeks.

Thanks for the video and pics, Miguel. Fun day - I enjoyed the Deckers run especially - the mostly sand-free road was better than this time of year deserves. I have to admit, I doubt I've ever gone up Bear Creek Cyn without running into a single car going our way. Unheard of, unless you're there at 6am on a Sunday morning...

Yea Microsoft Movie maker 2, Its a free download from Microsoft, requires windows XP though. Its pretty good. The music is from a band back east called "Carrigan" - its not PMG, which I missed this year, I had to work. Blake I dont let on when I am shooting video, it makes riders ride unnaturally, either they try to show off or get scared, this way I dont cause any undo stress.
Steve Farson is the guy who organized this ride, he was the one way out front blasting those turns on an XX, I was the camera man - My name is Miguel, and I am a Viffaholic.

Miguel, nice you were able to get some video. I'm still a bit numbed the DVD from the helmetcam is corrupted... you in front with Blakebird and Bikerfish in tow, leading at a good pace, 60 miles all the way from Pine Junction to Woodland Park, minimal traffic. We even watched a good chunk of it at lunch. A great vid.
But when the Handycam prepped it, or what they call "finalized" it for PC reading, some error condition dispatched the contents to the Twilight Zone. Online chat with Sony Support last night did not help. They suggested drivesaver.com. I even bought a five star utility ($25) online last night specializing in rescuing DVD's/CD's.... to no avail. Nothing on the DVD. Thinking of using it as an ice scraper now. Oh well, plenty more opportunities ahead.
Regardless, glad you could make it up north. The Givi bag goes well with your VIFF, and the new 'Stich is :thumbsup:.
What happened to TooFastXX? He dissapeared and I dont know where? I didnt realize he was missing till we started down the hill at Pine Junction? You gave me a scare when we got down to the bottom of Horsepower Hill and NO STEVE? Glad it was nothing, roads seemed like more like early summer than mid March! I got tired right about Deckers and started yawning like a fool. Thats why I didnt stop, I need to get home and in bed.
I met TooFastXX the previous day having lunch downtown Evergreeen. He moved here from Connecticut several months ago and is looking for a place in the Conifer area. He tours properties from his XX.
Invited him to join us Saturday and he was the first to show as I was fine tuning the helmetcam. He noted he would be with us part of the day and probably peel off around Conifer to look at more real estate, which he did.
Yeah, I get nervous when I look in the mirror and not see everyone. As you know, I couldn't find the remote to turn the cam off while coasting down Horsepower. Finally pulled over and chorning followed. Wind buried it deep in the tank bag.
Once while on the road to Guffey last autumn with ten riders following, I went up and down a small hill, looked back... no one. Slowed down, no one. Pulled over, no one. Sick feeling. Turned around and passed all the riders coming. Rider #2's license bracket/tag had broken off and was bouncing down the road. We duct taped it to the back of his jacket. :). Relief.
Sweet video. I took a nice 100 mile or so ride Sat. morning in the 65 degree weather and then watched about a foot of snow fall on Sat. night. Spring in CO.

I saw TooFastXX pull off....but after HP Hill I looked back and saw only Bikerfish, and a few minutes later, not even him. I knew he'd pulled over to see where Chris and Steve had gotten to - I didn't really have any fears anything bad had happened, there wasn't much sand and it was not tight curves, etc. I figured it was a photo op at the vista pullout :D
I hit the some of the same roads that day. Didn't know you were headed up here. I went from Morrison up through Ideldale, Kittredge, and into Evergreen. Then over to Bergen Park, slabbed it back to Morrison and hid behind the Hog Back over to 285, zipped up to Tiny Town, Turkey Creek, and then back down Deer Creek and home. And now snow? Can't believe the roads were so clean in March. We are a spoiled bunch here lately.
I know I need to dial in those reworked forks a bit, I had the rebound set soft as it would go, and it was flopping around like a fish on that concrete section at Connifer, that road has some kind of harmonic bumpyness that had my bike heaving around like a coin operated bed in a cheap motel room! I clicked it a bit harder perhaps I was too extreme there with the rebound.
After puttin on those f3 caps its nice to have adjustable fork rebound but I got to dial it in just perfect, it needs some adjusting.
Another great job on the video. I also use Movie Maker and it's very easy to put together good quality stuff. It's pretty intuitive. I had a book, but didn't really need it.
Here's a video I did compiling all my riding from last year. (Warning: it's about 9 minutes long - so you'll need a high speed connection and some time for it to download. I couldn't get it to work with Netscape, though Mozilla works fine.)

Same one. Thought there was enough VFR content to share it here.
I really only had photographs to work with last season. I'm looking to get a video camera, but I recently got laid off, so I have other priorities right now.
