I'm planning to ride :wheel: down to Deals Gap next weekend (Fri morning 25th March) riding from Dayton (OH) to Knoxville (TN)...
I was wondering :idea3: if there are any good routes other than sitting on the Interstate (I-75) heading South for 6 hours. If anyone know of interesting routes (places to see, twisties, whatever) on the way down there let me know please!!!
Here's a map view of the route I wish NOT to take (Interstate)
Thanks![image: Attached Image]
Looking closer at my map it seems like Route-25 might be alright, with a few twisties here and ther, anyone ridden that one in part ?
Highway SUCKS, but I would blast down all the way to Knoxville just to get all the bad miles behind you.
Where are you staying so I know where your heading ?
Lots of traffic around Knox. also avoid Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Glatlinburg route from Knox. It's awful and very slow with traffic, maybe not this time of year though. 129 sucks all the way down to about the river where it finally improves not that many miles from the Foothills Parkway.
From Knox. you have several route's possible :
1- 129 south to 321 at/near Maryville, 321 east past Walland and right on Foothills Parkway(nice road), Foothills dead ends on 129 again turn left on 129 and your a few miles from the Gap.
2- 129 south 411 south to just past Tellico Lake and a left on 360 (360 is a decent road with a few dog legs) 360 ends near/at Tellico Plans,TN at the Cherohala Skyway (Do Not Miss this road on your trip), turn left on the Cherohala(TN165) and you have 54 miles of uninterrupted awesome sweepers up to and back down 5000ft plus mtn., head to Robbinsville and you can take 129 north from there back up to the Gap. Again do NOT miss riding the Cherohala Skyway !!!!!!
Once your in the area take 28 south from the Gap store/hotel and goes as far south as you dare, it's great. Down through Franklin is great, down through Highlands is better.
