When I decided to get the OEM hard bags for my new '04 Asphalt VFR, it just seemed like a choice. When the dealer went to order them and the computer came back "discontinued" (last Thursday), neither one of us believed it- but yep, Honda confirmed it last Monday. Now my "choice" turned into a "hope..."
The dealer put out a "critical call," where any dealer who has the item in stock can see the request and sell it to the requesting dealer... and no reply as of yesterday. sad.gif
Today, I was delighted to find out that my dealer made some more calls to Honda, and located a pair of the Asphalt variety at a dealer in Boston... color me happy. biggrin.gif
If any other owners of Asphalt bikes (clearly a very discriminating bunch!) were thinking of OEM hard bags, I'd suggest you move quickly. Why Honda did this I can't say, but I wouldn't count on them changing their mind.
That really sucks they're being discountinued already. Kinda disappointing if you ask me.
I did see a pair of asphalt on ebay a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure the auction has ended by now though. Perhaps you there may be another set or two in the following months.

"Sucks" is being diplomatic, IMHO... I have never heard of any manufacturer dropping parts for a specific model/color in such a short timeframe! I can color *myself* lucky, as mine are on the way to my dealer right now... but I know how I'd feel if I'd been frozen out, as some are bound to be.
It seems like Honda has decided the market for Asphalt is limited at best- and I can't say I disagree, as clearly it's a color chosen only by those few with excruciatingly exquisite taste and appreciation for an aesthetic that screams "quiet power."
Damn, that sucks... pissed.gif I'll have to try and find some used later on. They aren't in the budget in the moment, especially with a 16 day trip coming up. Oh well.
After the shock of reading this alarming news, I went about searching and calling emailing and bitc..ng to whomever would listen. My wife's first reaction to the news was take the bike back (women)!
That was of course not an option. So with the help of Honda Customer service, and my dealership my bags will be here Saturday.
I will say my hat is off to Honda customer service They were awesome and very helpful. My dealership also was outstanding.
So If everything goes right I will have them saturday and get them mounted.
I have to say I was a little pissed when I did here this news considering I bought my '04 in 12/04 and now I couldn't get the bags mmmmm! but there is a happy ending
Here's a whacky idea: why not buy the 03 silver ones at david silver spares in the uk and paint them?
I got mine delivered for a total of 530. Brand spankin new and in perfect condition. There are numerous 'plastic' paints you can buy that I'm sure would match 'pretty well'. Remeber the outer shell is the only part taht matches, they all are black on the inner half.
keep in mind that alot of people, after they get them, find they don't use them that much, pretty expensive item to have that happen.
