Early run down of SBR 2005
wrote 16 april 2005 23:52 Hello everyone here is the early run down of the 2005 SBR.
First off "YES IT IS ON "
Had to get that out of the way .
The Town of Parry Sound wants it to continue and looks forward to seeing us this year and for many years to come.
In the towns mind it was never a question not to hold the SBR but how to make it better for motorcyclists.
The dates are -July 8th-10th
Most of the events will be on the Saturday.
there is no cost this year for the event just come and enjoy like minded people with a love for motorcycles. There will be t-shirts for the rally and the proceeds raised from the sale of the shirts are going directly to charity not someones pocket.
Bench racing is allowed.
The Moto races are going to be held at the docks as last year.
The motos are on from 1-4 on Saturday with qualifying runs early on in the day .
There is a $10.00 cost for adults children under 12 free for the Motos.
Foley fairgrounds will again be open for buisness camping and on site food will be available again at Foley.
The Bobby Orr Comunity Center {BOCC}ice rink
Will be the heart of the rally .The parking lot has been paved and vendors row will be set up next to the BOCC as it was last year minus the dust. Most of the big players have confirmed they will be comming back ,Suzuki.Yamaha,BMW. We are still waiting on some e-mails to confirm the others but all looks good just the small details left.
There will also be smaller vendors set up in the same area.
Cycle Canada and Bruce Reeve will be auctioning off riding gear, about 100 items , to raise money for the EMS of Parry Sound .All money raised will be donated to the EMS so lets show our support on this one .
There will be a Dyno shoot out class specific as well as a show and shine with trophys These two events ,the dyno and show and shine are sponsored by Triumph Canada .The classes will be posted up here Shortly.
The Trials will be held on Saturday 11-3 almost next to the vendors expo {BOCC}.This is a free event to watch and the balance of some of these riders is a must see.

A couple of things that are changed this year.

There will be no radar runs at the airport this year, manpower wise we cannot do it this year.
The Thunder Run will not start at the Foley fairgrounds ,we will be starting the run on 69 and heading through town with it ending at the BOCC .Yes the cheap awards are back !!!.What will they be ? You have to come down and check it out you never know who has caught our attention .

Jonny Rev & The Pushrods will be playing for us as we come in from the Thunder Run .This is the Rockabilly Band that played last year but will be playing outside not inside the arena this time.

Oh yes here is the big news .!
I wanted Mr Hacking to post this but hes a bit shy .
THE 2006 WORLD ENDURANCE RACES WILL BE HELD IN CONJUCTION WITH THE SPORTBIKE RALLY
JULY 15TH-16TH ARE THE DATES SO BOOK YOUR ROOMS EARLY .
This is a first held in Ontario and with it being set for the same weekend as sportbike for 2006 its going to be a busy one with national coverage.
We are also looking at adding alot more to do and see events in 2006 .
2005 is going to be a cross over of sorts we want your input on the rally and what things you would like to see ,do ,hear, take part in .
We are going to have an input box at the BOCC please let us know what you think by putting your ideas down on paper and dropping it in the box .
This is your Rally so lets hear from you.
Oh yes last but not least we have the access codes to this site for the long awaited upgrades .It is happening .The 2003 pix will be gone I promise .
Any group that would like to have a link put in to there home site please post it up in here for now.
I just wanted everyone to know that
The Sportbike Rally is what we make it and as far as I can see it is only going to grow and I want us to grow with it.
Mike did an awesome job as well as Mr Copper, You cannot say enough good things about them .
Who knew a little friendly get together with friends would turn into what it has today.

Ok I am running out of room and that hole where my appendix was a week ago is starting to hurt .
Im going to call it a night .I hope this little update helps. The next big one will be on the updated web page .
All the best, Toz

I'm going as well - staying at a B& B in Parry SOund - I know - I'm a wimp..... GOing up Friday, outta there Sunday.

When we get closer to the date- we should try to pick either a meeting spot - or at least try to ride up together.

Too bad I can't go!! :(

I will be at Laguana Seca that weekend for the MotoGP race!!! :goofy:
#5
Well, since I won't be at Laguna, I might as well ride up to the other Sportbike-palooza...
#6
Will it have super motard or dirt bike moto's? And do they allow Minnesota Riders in? (we've had a bad reputation in the past).

Cool, I forgot to check the SBR site recently...now I don't have to. I'm hoping to go. It'll be my 6th rally. Yeah, would be interesting to chat more near rally time to work out some kind of VFRD rendezvous.

check out the local Bed and Breakfasts. forget the website - but if you google B & B in ontario - you should come up with some options. I found one for $80 a night - all that is available - other than camping.

There are a lot of motels, hotels and lodges in the area. The best thing would be to Google Parry Sound Tourism. You better move though...these places fill up fast. The epicentre of the Rally is near the 'Brunswick Hotel' in downtown Parry Sound, but I tried getting a room there at this time last year and was informed that most of the rooms had been booked from the year previous...

Tried to book a room 2 months ago, my number is 30 on most of the cancelation list.

Looks like it's going to be a day trip, won't be the first & probably not the last.

Hey, there's still camping...and it's amazing how much firewood you can actually load on the back of a VFR
