GIVI hard bags

Hi all,

I'm italian but I live in Greece (Athens) since end of December.
By 7 days I will be owner of a second hand VTEC 2002 blue (10.000 Km).
Blue is not my favorite colour for VFR, but the price is nice and vfr's conditions are great.
Anyway, I want to buy side bags and I was looking for GIVI (nice Honda luggages but expensive; maybe later). Moreover, I have already a top bag GIVI E52 that I'm using with my ZR-7S (friend of 1000 adventures).

As introduction I have to say that here in Greece the bike's market is really different than rest of Europe. People is crazy for TDM, Varadero and all the other bikes of that category; bikes nice to ride off-road in the islands and to run fast on normal road, too. Personally I don't like those bikes, I'm in love with VFR; the consequence of my choice is to receive few VFR's support/products from dealers (regards luggage, I can choose GIVI or Honda, no choice). dry.gif
But I will try other dealers, I will not surrender.

I checked GIVI's web site but I found few information regard racks.
My main doubt : is it possible to mount on VFR the side racks without monorack?
I explain: I was watching the GIVI's rack pictures; first of all I can't understand if monorack is anchored to the VFR with 2 screws only, or by 4. You can see the pictures in the gallery below. I marked in red what I suppose are the anchors point ("A" - "B"), but in the point B I can't see screws or bolts. (I can't believe it is fixed with 2 screws only).

In the pictures of side rack product, instead, GIVI shows it fixed to monorack (me as simple customer I think :"if GIVI shows side rack in combination with monorack...monorack is requisite"). In this pic instead it is possible to see the screw in the point B.

Maybe for you all those stuffs are clear; by my side, I don't have yet VFR with me so I can't check the possible anchor points available on the bike (I will go in Italy next week for the bike exchange). smile.gif
Dealers can't help me as I wish because they don't have the VFR's products in stock (they have to order).

Moreover I read an alert for all the owners of monorack that says:
"Monorack when used in extreme conditions could suffers of alteration; please ask GIVI to send you the strengthening addition rack". Oops I say!!!
What does it mean "extreme conditions"?
Under the rain? 250 km/h speed? Snow? Off-road? sex?
Someone know about it?

I just added a Givi top box to my bike last week. The rails you are asking about are mounted with four bolts which go in the A and B holes. The ones marked as B are also the holes used to mount the mufflers to the bike.

The side bag mounts in your photo do require the full mounting rails. At point B the rails have stand off that extends about 15 cm's back to the muffler mounting point.

I just mounted a Wingrack on my '98 VFR. At this point, it is just a 151, which is sidebags only (you can buy the topbox rack later). It's a very good rack.

Dalma, thanks a lot, but I couldn't access the picture you've been published on bcsportbikes. I join the site, too, but when I click on the picture link it says I don't have enough privileges to see it.
Anyway, yesterday evening I found one shop in Athens (no surrender) that had a nice GIVI catalogue where I checked some PL racks features.
I read that all PL racks can be fixed on the bikes with or without monorack.
I saw one picture that is not displayed in their web site dry.gif . In the pic are shown all the parts of PL side rack mechanism; exists one long bolt that you use if you mount the side rack only (that goes to the holes used to mount the mufflers, as you told me). If you instead mount the monorack first, you don't need this bolt but simply you fix the side rack to the monorack using a screw.

Thanks Greg, I will check if I can find wingrack, too.
But I have already the monorack, so maybe my choice will be the side rack PL.

Sounds like a hundred angry wasps every time the lights go green:-) =Wheelies galore!!!

No wander the bikes are different though, must be hard on the VFR there.

I had a Honda 250 trail bike (forgot it's tag?) and bottomed the forks quite a few times in some VERY big 'suprise' holes in town.
10 mins out of the city though and you get GREAT semi rough roads and tracks...ace fun.

smile.gif You are right, it's a starting grid full of different kinds of bikes and scooters.
Regard driving VFR in this city, I hope will be not so difficult, but I don't think so.
It's weight it is almost similar to mine ZR-7S (213 Kg VFR, 210 Kg ZR), just the steer angle is a little bit lower (ZR-7S is 35�), but, I can't pretend to be smart like a little city scooter.
Moreover, when you start to live here you learn to be much quiet and to accept many things...traffic jam, too (greek philosophy). The traffic jam of this city is what you have to pay to live in a beautiful country like Greece.

You can ride bad streets just in islands or if you ride little old roads that connect little town in the mountains. Last summer I've ride 4.500 Km in 12 days, almost all over the Greece; I can guarantee you the roads conditions are not so bad now (of course it is not like in north of Europe).
