This is the entrance to the park, All of the photos were taken within 5 miles of my home in Sharpsburg Md.

This monument is for the Pennsylvania Soldiers.

This cannon battery overlooks Burnside Bridge.

This is the entrance to the National Cemetary. On these grounds the remains of both Confederate and Union Troops are buried. One of the sailors killed on the USS Cole is buried here. He was a youth volunteer for the park and tended the cemetary grounds. His family requested his burial here. It took an act of congress to open a closed National Cemetary. He is buried here on these sacred grounds.

I toured the park in 1992 while visiting a military buddy that lived in Hagerstown. It forever changed my life.

I live in a suburb of Chattanooga now and the battlefield parks in Ft. Oglethorp, Lookout Mountain, and Missionary Ridge are regular visits of mine.

Lest we remember, we are doomed to repeat history.

A tour of Civil War battlefields in Virginia, during autumn, would be why I own a VFR. Despite growing up there, I have yet to see Cold Harbor.

It would also give me a chance to stock up on apple syrup (far superior to maple syrup, you New English heathens).

Hey Shipfixer, Is the Antietam a cruise missle ship? It looks like one, I used to make the launch-storage containers for the Tommahawk cruise missle.

CRFJohn, thanks for sharing the pics. I've been back and forth trying to decide if I prefer black or silver wheels with the black hardbags. Your pics have given me the inspiration to go black when I get the chance.

She is an Aegis Class Cruiser.

I thought so. My buddy was on the USS Port Royal and got to take me up to the bridge once at night. Talk about alot of buttons and lights. Very cool!

The battlefield areas are one of my favorite rides to do here in Gettysburg. I get to Harpers Ferry when I take in a Summitt Point Race. They are a blast. We should think about a meet for a race one weekend in the summer. Ride Safe!

Yep, its a VLS-equipped cruiser. All of the Mk 26 TICONDEROGA's are decommed, so now all CG's are TLAM shooters...

Since this turned into a sort of "who's in our area" thread I figured I'd chime in. I live in Shepherdstown, WV, right across the river from you John! I ride Harpers Ferry Rd. a lot and know exactly where Mills Rd. is (I bicycle down that one a lot...)

We should all get together for a ride sometime!
