THE MEET

14 bikes showed up to ride and sign the VFRD flaf today in Morrison Colorado, we all met around noon at the conoco and shot the Sh$$%t and kicked tires for a long while before heading up into the mountains. Chorning on his superhawk, Sfarson - 999, gs2sv-SV650, gs2sv's-buddy on his yellow triumph, Blake-multistrada, Bash - cool streetfigher VTEC, of the VFRS Me, Gmoney, Mailman/wife, Zonker, ColoradoVFR, VSomthing (hey I cant rember - help me out dude and post with your correct name), Bouldergeek, Freddie, and a few other I cant seem to remember. I was tired from working the night before and napping only a few hours.

THE RIDE
The ride sort of wicked up a bit on 285 and some riders peeled off cause of bad tire, or other obligations Freddy left first. Oh well we all have busy lives but its always nice to see everybody again.

When we pulled into the Elk Creek Station Restaurant in Pine there was Bash with his rebuilt VTEC he bought off a wrecker for $1,100 rebuilt the front end with spares he had and made it into a street fighter, hes a pro mechanic for a racing outfit in the springs.

Bash's VTEC Project found a wrecked silver VTEC with a smashed front end and put on a 626 wheel and forks on there sanded and clear coated the tank and light for a street fighter look.

THE RESTAURANT

wow good food our waitress Megan with both pretty and gracious, we made sure to give her a great tip, Sfarson said when we do these things we always end up giving out a huge tip, I hope she was happy - as we were with the food and service.

Dang it,
I'm on the wrong side of the mountains to make it there. It's still a bit early to be crossing the high passes on two wheels. I was really hoping the Flaf would be at Miller Motorsports Park for the Superbike races. Who knows? It's made to travel. I hope it gets a good East Coast Tour!

Will be there around noon....probably head back into town after lunch....so many spring projects to do around the house and need to get some things done to the viffer!!! look forward to seeing everyone biggrin.gif

I may have a houseguest this weekend. However, if I do not, I'd be happy to get in on this Flaf ride.

It is not too often that the Colorado rides end up on the north side of Monument.

I don't think any of the high roads have been swept yet, so it might be a putt-putt ride.

Looking forward to seeing some local folks again!

I'm on the flaf from a ride Johnnyboy organized last summer but may still show since it's so close. I'll probably have to do the short ride + lunch and burn back home. I'll check back in with a final say.


Edit... I just rode from Morrison up to Kittredge for some BBQ with my daughter on Sunday and the road was smooth and in good shape as long as you stayed off of the yellow lines. (which you should anyway right?) Still a bit of sand remaining on the paint.

Damn, can't make it Sunday. Saturday? Anyway, have a good ride. I hope to get in a couple of rides with you guys this summer. beer.gif

That way I have enough information to decide if can make this ride. I'd love to meet some of us from this forum for sure. Don't want to decide before finding out all the info. Wow 3!!!

Hey all. New to the site as of today. Looking forward to riding with you guys. I ride with a bunch of knuckleheads on R6's and F4's right now. Looking for more long range touring rides now.

Ok. Help me out here. What is a "FLAF". (It's my first day here)

Total time lets see Leave C Springs about 10:45am I added a half an hour for the morrison rendevous, 20 minutes at Echo Lake, 45 minutes for lunch in Idaho Springs, then bomb Deckers back home back to C Springs around 5pm. Thats what Streets and Trips spit out.

Whats the flaf? did you miss the big picture on the first post? Clck help above on the top bar for the full story.

How can I pass this up? I'm in. I'll put my clutch fluid replacement off until Sunday.

Everybody I have talked too has said that Squaw pass is too dirty at the moment so Steve Farson suggested this option which I am really interested in, its shorter for me and about the same distance for you Denver folk, still meeting at Morrison at the same time.

Chris emailed and can join on Sunday.  So can Blake.  I can't leave the home
until 11:30a - 11:45a, making Morrison at noon difficult.  We were going to
connect at the Pine Junction Grocery but can change this to 12:30p at the
Morrison Conoco.

Another option... you go to Morrison, pick up anyone there, skip
questionable Squaw Pass and higher elev, come to Pine Junction arriving
around 12:30p.  We ride towards Deckers but have lunch at the Elk Creek
Station in Pine Grove before going on to Woodland Park.  From there I might
go on to Victor/Cripple Creek.

Let me know your preference.

I'm planning to leave downtown COS around 9:45 (no later than 10:00 AM) and avoid riding I-25 just 'cause I have some time to burn Sunday morning. Here's my planned route to Morrison:
COS-Black Forest on SR83
Black Forest-Monument-Palmer Lake-Sedalia on SR105
At Sedalia right onto SR67 then left onto US85
Sedalia-Littleton on US85
Littleton-Morrison Exit on C470

Streets&Trips says it's 83.6 miles and roughly 2 hours at "average" speeds. I'm happy to hook up with anybody who would like to take the longer "minimal super slab route." An easy spot to meet would be the Starbucks Coffee in Monument -- say 10:30 AM? Anybody?

Sounds much safer. Pretty solid rain/snow mix this a.m. here in Littleton and the snow line was right down on top of the closest hogback. I would imagine Squaw Pass to be a mess. Still not sure about my attendance this weekend but definitely a safer route.


Edit: There is also a new ski area at Squaw Pass which is now called Echo Mountain. Echo Mountain

Can't make it this time - but I'm looking forward to the next one. Should be a nice day for weather.

Will be at the Morrison Conoco between noon and noon thirty. Have two others coming along for a little non VFR flavor... though the VFR is an outstanding ride I would note after a long rental of one overseas. biggrin.gif

Lunch at the Elk Creek Station in Pine Grove around 1:15p should be no problem. I'll call Roxanne the owner to expect us.

I would really like nothing more thant o meet and ride with some of us. However, I will have to guage how I feel Sunday morning and judge for myself if I'll be ok to ride. Safety first and with this quick storm that just went past, gotta give the roads a day or two to get right. Any idea how US24 is from Woodland Park to the Springs? Sand and gravel tend to be present until June sometimes.

As much as I'd love to make this one, I'm gonna pass. I've not been able to get up earlier than noon. I don't think I'll be very safe.

Mailman and Mrs. Mailman will be at Conoco by 12:15 for gas and greet. We will probably bring up the tail of the ride since we're going to be two up and watching for sand. No race for us this time just a spirited cruise to start the season off. Steve Farson? That the Hyabusa guy from STN? I think we met on the Flaf ride last year. I was only on one other VFRd ride prior to that when we met at CSpgs for breakfast. Colorado (Larry) and I headed back up to Deckers while the rest went south. Hope to see all safely at the Conoco. beer.gif

You're really lucky you didn't go down 285E toward Morrison. Apparently a motorcyclist had some bad luck today.

All the traffic stopped for a long time, just past the Parmalee Gulch exit. A guy in a Ducati Monster S4R went by the other way, and signaled to turn around. SO, I snapped it around, and stopped up the road at the fire house. They said I should take Parmalee Gulgh to Kittredge, Evergreen, and back to Morrison/I-70. So, I did that.

285 was stopped up big time. Still may be for all I know. But, 74 was a nice alternative.

Great ride today everyone. 285 was fun. Pine Valley Rd. was fun. All 12 at Elk Creek Station worked out. Cruising the Jeffco 126 sweepers were fun. Passing the Jeffco Sheriffs on their Harleys coming the other way was fun. Deckers to Woodland Park was fun. Excellent road conditions. Excellent weather. Signed the flaf.

Enjoyed meeting the area VFR riders.
