Hi all,

just got my 06 - 07 insurance quote. its almost double last year as Kingsway General Insurance thinks its a Super sport and not a street bike anymore...

At least Jevco is offering a similar rate what I was paying last year.

I would say Check with State Farm if the write auto/motorcycle policies in the Great White North/Your Territory.

I've found that they were anywhere from 20-50% less expensive for insuring motorycles here in the states and I have a friend who insured his 2 bikes and his truck for less than he was paying for just the bikes when he had Geico.

just my $.02

My better half just insured the 03 we have in her name with State Farm, full coverage, $500 deductible for $270/6 mos.

That sounds about right...

I don't think State Farm is in Canada, try here Defiant: http://www.primmum.com

That's who I'm with and they're pretty reasonable, IMO.

State Farm is definitely in Canada but I can't swear about regional or provincial exceptions.

I have been with them for all my driving needs since the 70's.

In Ontario, their policy is judged by bike engine size, not bike type.

I agree - State Farm; give them a try if they are up in your area. $228 every 6 months (in New Mexico) for an 02 Vfr stock. I do recall them if I added a power commander, or pipes; or if I modified her for more hp; which I didn't, for those reasons of (at least my) insurance rates being increased. Plus; I had a wreck 2 years ago; totalled the first Vfr; they paid off the blue book; new helmet and gear; and hospital income.

States on me; 33 years; 1 bike; 1 Suv; and 1 car insured through State Farm; no speeding tickets n record (I always talk my way out of them; go to traffic school; and get a verbal warning from Mr. Johnny Law); and no accidents since driving cages from 16 years old; just the bike one I had 2 years back as a result of me being stupid piloting my "Viffer. Oh yeah; $500 deductible rate on the bike currently. Good luck; keep us informed...

+1.gif for State Farm.

I turned 25 a few months ago, so my rates are dropping 50% next month when my motorcycle policy renews. It'll only be $600 a year now! Not too bad for a single male living in a big city. I also have my Subaru and home owners insurance with State Farm, so I get a nice multi-line discount on my car too. cool.gif
Oh, and I have one ticket right now. dry.gif

EDIT: Just got my renewal in the mail yesterday, it's only going to be $450 a year!! That's a 63% drop!!! Whoo-hoo!!!

That's odd, I"m with Kingsway as well and mine went down from 800.00 to 560.00?
Just liability and I get 15% off as a CMG RC (Canadian Motorcycle Rider's Club) member.

somebody help me! I just signed on for progressive yesterday and they want 1450 for one year. I took the deal because another company that I don't like was the closest at 1365. I'm 27 I have no tickets or accidents and I didn't try state farm. Maybe I can stop payment on the check.... Red 02 VFR I'm calling state farm right now.

All we have to do is get people to stop Crashing them and this wouldn't happen! huh.gif

You don't even have to stop payment. Just get hte quote from state far, go sign up for the insurance and then call progressive and cancel the insurance w/Progressive. They can't charge you for what you didn't use.

+1.gif Go state FARM! They just quoted me 1/4th what I was going to pay with progressive! I have to run my car with them too which will be a little more than it was but the blended rate is FAR less then what I would have paid. Whew..... VFRD strikes again. Saved my bacon.

I bought my 2006 couple months ago, The VFR costed me $1000 per year, just collision, comp and liability. nothing else. progressive ,geico, statefarm they were all about the same 1000 to 1200

I spent a few phonecalls with progressive trying to reduce costs(nada), 2 months later I tried an online quote with Geico, and dropped their price to $633 for the year.

still high but not insane. and yes the VFR must be a real high crash prone bike

So progressive is sending me a big refund check, and as of the 15th we are back with gieco.

#16
Go STATE FARM! They were about 1/4th the cost for me also, as compared to Progressive. Saved a bundle!
#17
I just renewed my policy today (talk about timing). $560 a year, fully comp. $250 deductable, thought that was pretty good as my previous company wanted $1100 for specified perils, went through Blue Circle here in Calgary, policy is with Jevco, Odd thing is my old policy was also with Jevco but through a different broker. Somebody was trying to making a huge margin I think pissed.gif

State Farm....just renewed $229.00 full coverage 1 year $250.00 deductable

Must be the VTEC name giving the bike a "reputation".
It's bad enough a lot of VTEC Civic owners like to live the F&F lifestyle, now maybe the insurance companies are starting to assume anything with the "VTEC" name might equal the same kind of drivers. Just my theory.
I heard that it could be the same reason that they dropped the "Interceptor" name years ago.

I just got my renewal notice in the mail today. This is my 6th year with State Farm and again, my rates have not changed for 06-07. They've actually dropped about $60 over the course of the year.

Go State Farm.
#22
I had Progressive on my VFR, and 21st Century on my truck, until I added a CBR 954 to the stable. They both quoted me highway robbery rates despite zero claims by me. I fired them. pissed.gif

And went to AAA with my 3 (now 4) vehicles. wheel.gif

I'll shop around again when renewal time comes up. No insurance company has been good enought to me to warrant repeat business unless their price is cheapest. They do have to be reputable. rolleyes.gif
#23
I must agree,If you get to cosy with them they just keep increasing your rate.
Ive never stay with a company more than two to three years.
They just add increases every year and before you know it your paying hunderds of dollars more than you should.
They best rate i found this year here in ontario was from jevco. Was with primum and called state farm and others and jevco was $500 or more less then any other company.
Jevoc still classes a vfr as a sport tour. smile.gif

#24
My renewal with Primmum (TD Insurance) went down this year over last...You should shop around, many insurance companies will raise rates arbitrarily when insuring something they don't really want to insure such as bikes. TD seems to be the most interested in bikes in Canada and is pretty much eating everyone elses lunch.

BTW - $591.00 for $1M liability, Fire and Theft, Family Protection endorsement.

LOL.. Progressive wanted almost $1400yr for full coverage for my 99 VFR...
I went thru " Pekin insurance " and pay $ 229 yr full coverage...I am 41 married , no tickets..
#26
Coastal Oregon, 47, house, truck and car with State Farm. No tickets, mutual category. Full coverage at 100/300/50, 250 deductible, with uninsured coverage costs me 308 per year.

Switched from Progressive this month, which cost me 425/year for about half the coverage limits.

Thanks for all the responses!!!

I am shopping the market now, the only reason I can't go statefarm is that they really penalize traffic tickets.

With 1 or 0 tickets statefarm would be less costly, however, since last year was my first on the VFR I ended the year with 3.

With kingsway or Jevco thats a mere 15% increase over "normal" rates. With SF its more than double.

Guess I'll have to buy a cruiser if this keeps up.

Cheers

All we have to do is get people to stop Crashing them and this wouldn't happen!

Bailyrock - I agree; but we all know in this hobby; it's not "if" I go down; but "when"....

VFR - good on you for checking with State Farm; they've been extremely cool with me with my 1 bike wreck; and after all of that miserable process I had to go through; in addition to the loss of a bike, broken bones; loss of work, ect.; my insurance rates didn't increase by a penny...

Progressive is such a scam; they originally wanted something close to $1500 a year compared to the $456 with State Farm... dry.gif

I just got a call from my Primmun rep saying my 02 VFR was now classidied a s a sport bike and that I would need to get a full alarm system installed and needed full coverage. I'm in New Brunswick but I think they operate out of Nova Scotia.
