First off, a big thank you to Alan (Scotinexcile) and Beth for hosting the event. Congrats on the recent marriage, as well, ya damn fools.

My schedule allowed for only one day of riding, so I was up bright and early on Saturday morning, slabbing it over the Sierras on I-80 to meet everyone by 10 am in Reno. I was making good time and getting bored of the interstate, plus it was a little chillier than expected, so I exited the interstate at Kingvale and continued east on Donner Pass Road. I stopped at Sugarbowl to admire the scenery:

Then it was over the pass and down towards Donner Lake.

I was still way ahead on time so from Truckee, I headed south to Lake Tahoe and enjoyed the beautiful views and the relaxing, low traffic roads. I stopped for breakfast at a place that was 'biker friendly'. Sticking out like a sore thumb, my bike was the ugly duckling of the bunch. I'll take a plastic clad bike over a chromed one every time, thank you.

From Incline Village, I climbed up and over on the curvelicous Hwy 431 then down into Reno and the meeting point at the Honda dealership. Despite being mostly a lurker around here, everyone was very friendly to me and Alan and Beth were very gracious hosts. Here's some of the group carbo loading courtesy of Big Valley Honda.

L to R: Alan's BMW riding friends Tim and Tassie, Keithbob , BusyLittleShop, MFP-2241, Scotinexile, Magellan, Mrs. Magellan, wazzuFreddo, and Snowgirl and Teleskier.

Let's ride! We filed out of the lot and slabbed south in tight formation to the bemusement of the cagers on Hwy 395. Then it was time for some fun on the curves of Hwy 431. Cager traffic was clogging the road, but there were some fun stretches between clumps of traffic. The road took us up the hill, past Mount Rose ski area, and then down towards Lake Tahoe. It was a Kodak moment at the scenic overlook.

BusyLittleShop having some fun.

Then the parade made its way down to the lake and around the northern and western shores towards Emerald Bay. Because of the tourists, we were moving about as fast as a marching band for what seemed like forever. There were some scenic views at Emerald Bay. Here's Tim and Tassie and some of the group.

We continued south on Hwy 89 to our lunch stop. Here's BLS and Rich Merrill.

Mr. and Mrs. Magellan.

We stopped for lunch in South Lake Tahoe and the food was great, but for the life of me, I can't remember the name of the place.

After lunch, it was a run up Ice House Road and then back to Sacramento for me, but that's a whole other thread....

Thanks again Alan and Beth, I had a great time riding with you all.

I was on a 5 day trip in the Sierras coming up from the Incline Village on NV431/Mt Rose Highway when I see a Lake Tahoe overlook full of VFRs. Gee I have one of those!!!! Wish I had been paying more attention to the thread on a get together AND I was even staying in Reno. Camped other nights. It was good to talk to a couple of you for a few moments and appreciate yet again what a small world this really is. Thanks.

I have never had more fun on a motorcycle than this trip. Seeing all the VFRs was the icing. VFRs are the best for this kind of ride. I recommend everybody ride the Sierras. Now is anybody going to Laguna?

My bike is in the front with about half of the crap I carried on the trip.

You are more than welcome to meet both of us half way, say Ukiah, Ft. Bragg/Mendocino for a weekend or just come up here and ride. We are going to the PNW meet as well but open to riding sooner with you both.

Let me know.

I got to a computer and printed out driving directions but...................... My buddy who was sampling a Vstrom meet at Reno got back real late that night from a group ride and I waited for him. Turns out one of the guys he rode with high sided his Vstrom 1000 and had to be carted/flown off to the hospital. Hope he will be OK.

Coming to San Diego???

I originally had a pair of the Timax gloves, but when my garage was broken into last January, they were stolen. I was going to get the Timax, but I found a website that was actually selling the Bling gloves cheaper than the Timax, so I figure why the heck not. tongue.gif
