What's in your wallet, er, tank bag?

I use my cortech tribag (just the big bag, not all three pieces) wherever I go. So what do I store in there that I need so much storage? Good question!
1. Cold weather Deathrage gloves.
2. Cool weather Olympia gloves.
3. Warm weather Joe Rocket Meteor gloves.
4. Tire inflator with three refills.
5. Neck cooler.
6. Windshield cleaner and rag.
7. Cell phone.
8. Small Kryptonite cable lock.
9. Blistex/chapstick
10. Sunglasses.
11. Gatorade, sometimes 2 if it's hot.
12. Balaclava (head warmer).
13. California map.
14. CD player on occasion.
15. FRS radio with cables for helmet/PTT switch.

So what do you carry in your tankbag? We can add saddlebags later to another post.

It has the good stuff. Cashola.

Tank bag has FRS radio, eyedrops, Rolaids, non-ignition keys, smokes and fire sticks, hand towel (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy says I must have it!), earplugs, usually Gatorade in an insulated thing with Blue "ice", change, face shield cleaner and hankie, maybe a balaclava, sometimes camera, maps I rarely need to look at. For the races an AM/FM radio. Oh, SUNBLOCK. � biggrin.gif

For Laguna Seca, I like to bring a small cooler that fits in 1 saddle bag, holds gatorades, munchies, and a coupla beers in the bottom for when I get to the room at days end. � beer.gif �A first aid kit is good.

I only use my tank bag for all day or extended trips, so it's gets pretty well packed, and varies on where and when I'm going somewhere.

First and foremost: A MAP!  :p   You never know when you pull off onto some little backroad and you're wondering just where the heck it's going to take you.  Not only that, but I'm very adept at asking for directions too.  :laugh:

There's also my camera (usually two: one good digital for those memory-enhancing shots and then a cheap-o one-use boxes for taking "action shots" as we rocket down the road  :twist:

If the weather looks iffy, then the rainshell gets packed in there.  Water, munchies, second pair of gloves, tire guage, spare master link...  chapstick, sunscreen... stuff.  Who knows what else is in that bag  ???

Ok,Ok... I (said under my breath) use a map too on occasion.
I usually can read one before I leave and be good to go.

But my wife, oh man.  She has to orient the map to get the road she's on pointing up & down!  So if the road we're on is eastbound, she'll turn the map so it's point up.  Drives me crazy mad.gif

What's the difference between a cap and a hat?  I saw a gixxer1000 the other day and they had their cap stuffed bill first between the tank and the seat turned so that the curve of the bill followed the curve of the tank.  That was pretty cool. Agreed...what he said.  :p  I always stash one due to helmet hair, especially on a humid day.

I just carry the minimal stuff on a day ride:

1. Small wallet
2. Cell phone
3. HRCA membership card (towing/roadside emergencies)
4. Clear shatterproof riding glasses
5. Chapstick
6. Disposable towelettes (in a small ziplock baggie)
7. Disc Lock
8. Bandana
9. Cargo net

Item 1 through 6 all fit nicely in a small modified fanny pack. The fanny pack and the rest stuffed into my Corbin Smuggler...no tank bag required.  :beer:

I never wear a hat. God gave me great (grey) hair. I show it off.

But, I did notice the 9MM in one guys bag. Man that is really hard to leave in a bag when you go in a store for a Pepsi. And, I will lay money he doesn't have a conceal carry license. I always have a pistol in my car on long trips.

I only carry the 3 pairs during winter and fall. We ride in the desert, mountains, and passes all in the same day sometimes. The temperature differential can span 20 degrees on a given ride. I ride like crap with frozen fingers, so I play it safe, being of the thin variety. When I ride to work at 5:00 in the morning, I wear the Deathrage gloves. On the ride home, I switch to lighter gloves for carving Bouquet canyon. During the summer I only wear the Joe Rocket Meteor gloves. They are mostly mesh with vents and keep your hands cool on those 100+ days. That's my story and I'm stickin to it! biggrin.gif

Having lived in Southern California and spent weekends in the high desert, I can attest to the wide temperature swings.  In Florida our temperature will swing 30 degrees easily but from the 60's to the 90's.  My Alpinestar SP-1's work fine in those conditions.

my tank bag is also kind of my back pack for the day. i don't like wearing a backpack while riding, so i go the tourmaster mini.

1. alcohol wipes - compact, easy face shield cleaning device. i steal them from the hospital and have a large supply with me at all times.
2. extra ear plugs
3. warm/cold weather gloves. (the ones i'm not wearing at the time)
4. stethoscope
5. hospital ID
6. palm pilot (actually sony clie t665c)
7. mini-deodorant
8. disposable camera
9. some pens.
10. tire pressure gauge
11. occasionally a textbook.
12. registration/insurance - which is a stupid idea because sometimes i don't travel with my bag and i'm gonna get whacked on of these days for not having it with me when i get pulled over.

i also have a wallet (chain driven harley leather), a .40 Glock, a cell phone, keys, and a Benchmade� Elishewitz edition pocket knife on my person pretty much all the time. and i DO have a concealed carry permit in several states, thank you very much, because not everyone is a GoodGuy.

good question. i too was worried about this and used it in non-vital areas first. luckily there has been no ill-effect. this has been my second season using them. same shield. no foggy/white/haziness.

the alcohol is great on bugs and it dries quicker than water.

not as nice as a good rainX job, but much much better than riding home with crap all up in your face.
