Not trying to sway anyone from other planned rides on Sept 16th, but it is about the only day in that month I have open, to hit a long ride, and I thought I'd throw it out there.
After doing a 750 km day about 3 weeks ago which was awesome, I want to head back to the Haliburton area and enjoy the roads one last time before the snow flies.
My plan is to head over to Haliburton either Friday night, or meet up with MCREW and gang in Brooklin early Saturday morning. THe roads up near Haliburton are truly exceptional, and worth the effort to get there.
I already know there are a couple of guys up for a ride that day, out that way - so post up if you want to meet up and have a Fall Run, finishing with a run south on the MAchine Builder highway (507). We can celebrate MB return to riding, and be prepared for the fugly winter that is too fast approaching.
As long as the weather holds for that day, I'm going to go.
Hey Lobster and Pgreen94 - you guys are most welcome (as are any of our "southern" friends that care to make the trip!!)
If I get cleared with the warden I wouldn't mind heading up the Friday night and staying over.
I'll see how many brownie points are in the bank.
What time do you think you would be leaving on the Friday?
No idea yet Dennis - likely after work. It would just be nice to get over there the day/night before. Its a lot of slabbing to get there, and it would break the ride up nicely. (Also good to not have to leave at 7am Saturday when we all know its going to be a little chillier than we're used to.)
I see that there is hotels in Bancroft available - I'll have to check and see what else is in the area. Stay tuned.
My schedule is WAY up in the air right now. I was tentatively planning to ride to Baltimore to see some family that weekend. However, if the weather out east is crappy and the weather up north is nice, I may change my plans and join you guys at the last minute. I also might have to work some magic in the Kitchen Pass department, as I'm scheduled to go to Germany for a week the following weekend, so we'll see.
I'll watch the thread. Thanks for the invite. Since BMV isn't going, you'll need a shaved head rep there...
I don't have the new bike on the road yet. It'll be put back together, licensed and rideable by next weekend. Then I'll have to log some miles before I can tell if I'm up for some touring. I haven't ridden all summer and really don't know how the body is going to react to longer periods in the saddle? If my short ride home on VFR-B is any indication, things should be positive.
Staying over Friday may have a bearing on the decision. Assuming I'm sore? (and allowed to go biggrin.gif ) Maybe I'll jump on the bike and feel good? I'm playing it by ear right now.
If all of the pieces of the puzzle fit together, then I'll be there. Staying tuned.........

CHris - if you think you feel up to it, and want to go over there Friday night - I have no problem riding with you, and taking as many stops as you need to stretch out, take a break, whatever. Oh - and I will lead this time..... biggrin.gif
Let me know bro - I'm in for Friday night - we just have to find a hotel - apparently the Best Western in Bancroft is sold out? WTF is up with that? Anyone else know other motel/hotel in the area?

Hello Ken,
We looked on the net and the Best Western noted that it was sold out when Mal and I were going up two weeks ago. Called up there and they had lots of space...no reservation required. That was mid week. If you have not actually called them it is worth a try.
I would love to go but I'm going hunting in Timmins the next weekend for three days. I would not dare ask the "warden" for a pass. biggrin.gif
I rode up to Timmins, to see family, last Tuesday and back home the next day this week. Wanted to try a longer distance solo ride as I'm thinking about visiting in Dryden and Timmins next summer. 1600 km in 2 days. The isolation from Sudbury to Timmins is calming. Trip was actually much less tiring than a full day 600km of agressive twisties in Haliburton. Not as fun though.

I am in for friday as well. I will be working till 4:30 though.
Chris. nice to hear you are close to getting back on the road. Ditto on what Ken said. I will be leaving Ricky Racer at home this time. Being home for 3 weeks with the little ones has given me new perspective on a lot of things. My brother may go, but he will have to swtich a shift to go. But either was I am in for friday. Even if you guys head up earlier, I will meet you where ever.
4 per room $115 . 2 double beds (for those who don't mind a little spooning)
They currently have a few rooms.
I've ridden past that place a few times. Looks fine. Less $ than the Best Western which will run you about $150 on a weekend. A little more out of town...can't remember if it is 1,2,3 km fom the core. You may want to check. Being able to have a couple of beers at dinner was worth the additional cost to me during the weekdays. For another $50 per night I would take a cab on the weekend.
One way or the other make sure you go to Vito's for dinner. Good pasta and pizza for about $10 per entre. Not to be missed.
Wish I was there for everthing but the spooning. tongue.gif
I am hoping to make this ride. If I do I will be riding up early Saturday morning. Meeting up with those travelling on Saturday in Brooklin, like we did for the now infamous 507 ride, would work for me.
I should be good for that weekend - I'm actually off for once!. I will probabley ride up on the Sat but we'll see. And yes you can lead this time dry.gif

I don't need to lead Greg - but if it helps control Vaentino Machine Builder - I'll bear that burden.... laugh.gif
Sounds like a fun ride brewing. Unfortunately, work committments are going to have to make me pass on this ride, but here's hoping the 16th provides some classic Ontario fall colours for those of you able to make it out.
This might be doable for me too. My only concern is the distance from Paris to get there in the first place, as I haven't gone that far at once. So, I'm giving some thought as to going up the day before. Hey, maybe I could offer free mind reading/fortune telling, right, Machine? "Let's see, your next bike will be a ......." wheel.gif idea3.gif goofy.gif
Well the 16th doesnt work for me unfortunatley. I will watch this post and see if i can hook up along the route somewhere later in the day perhaps. wink.gif
At the rate I'm going I'll be trailering my bike over there. I am having HUGE issues with forking out close to $500 for a set of Z6's. I figure I have about 250 km left in the tires on my bike, and if I trailer over there - and trailer back- I should be just fine....... idea3.gif
ANyone near the border - say Niagra falls or Buffalo care to arrange for a set of tires for me at one of your local bike shops? THat would be worth the predicted savings I think, to make a tripover for tires......
Looks like my brother has more important things to do than split a case of beer with me unsure.gif , so screw him...looks like I'm off to Canada. Soooooo, I have a few planning questions for you.
1. The official ride is Saturday, right? I may actually bale out of here on Thursday afternoon, so I could be in the area on Friday if anyone might care to give me an afternoon pre-tour of the area...anyone...buehler?
2. Will there be a prize for the longest trek to get there? It'll be about 400 miles for me (uh, sorry, that's about 16,000 kilometers I think...)
3. Any chance you could con M-Crew and his cougar attractant to get up there Friday night for a beverage and free lesson in attracting said cougars?
4. I might even stay over Saturday night and cruise home Sunday. Anybody heading home in the general direction of Detroit care to join me for the ride Saturday night / Sunday? GMtech94 and I had a great ride coming home last year.
I'll ask some of the other MI boys (and pgreen) to see if I can get some additional US reps.

Looking forward to it.
Lobster - Saturday is the "ride". Due to the eastern location (meaning the good roads are a ways east for us in the West side of Toronto -I was aiming to scoop a motel for Friday night - even if I'm not there until 8 or 9pm. Wish I could plan to stay Saturday night but I have a function I have to attend Sunday AM early. I'll be heading home Saturday afternoon.
I think I owe you a beer or two, so I'll look forward to that. NOt sure waht Crews plans are - but if he can get away Friday night as well - then things will be interesting for sure!!!
HOpe some of the US crew can make it - would love to have you guys come up this way.

Ken give Donald a call at platinum power sports about the tires.
So does anyone have any definate plans on where they will stay Friday night. I am assuming its a make your own reservation thing. Don't really want to book a hotel for Bancroft when everyone ends up in Haliburton or something.
A few beers Friday night sounds good to me if its an open invitation.

I'm in Cambridge and have done it a few times now. Its about an hour and a half to Brooklyn and the end of the 407(A little less with police escort.) biggrin.gif Its a straight slab ride, but its not too bad. Last ride I did 700km in a day. I am planning to head up friday, leaving 4:30 at the latest, earlier if I can help it. You are welcome to meet up.
