Why did you buy your tank bag?

I am looking at buying a tank bag.  Not a big one but something that I can use for everyday plus if need be take and put clothes in for a day.

 I just purchased an Oxford magnetic tank bag and I love it. It is a very well put together piece of kit. Heavy duty zippers and pulls. Comes with a raincover...Also comes with a set of shoulder straps if you want to use it as a backpack/daypack.

I've got the Joe Rocket Magnetic tank bag. It's okay. I wouldn't suggest it for an overnight ride. It's too small. I can get my laptop in it though so it works for me between work and home.

I have an Icon Urban Tank Bag.  It came as a throw-in with the bike.  It retails for $109.

I like the bag.  Its a mag-mount. It also has backpack straps and a helmet holder.  Nice thick neoprene pad on the bottom also.

I was able to use it as an overniter.  But I pack pretty light.

I use a Nelson-Rigg magnetic tank bag.  Does great for the day rides I go on.  Its expandable and came with a rain cover.  It wouldn't be large enough for an overnighter though unless all you need to take is one pair of clothes and a toothbrush.

I have the RKA 16 SuperSport Magnetic and love it. �Their bags are made very well and hold on the tank very good. �There's also come with a rain cover.

I use a RKA Mini Tank bag.  I wanted a small bag for my everyday stuff.  It comaes in red also.

tourmaster mini tank bag. i think that the tri-bag system is just far too large.

i prefer magnetic. it's faster and i haven't been able to make it budge even with a lot of weight in it at high speed.

oh, and it's cheaper.

I got the Joe Rocket "Multi" magnetic tankbag. Similar in concept to the Tourmaster Tribag setup, except the one bag does not expand. It too turns into a backpack. (at least one of the bags does)

It's versatile, small if you want it to be, cavernous if you have the need.

When you use all three parts of the tri-bag, it is indeed large, but you can just use parts of it. If you zip the small bag onto the magnetic base, it is just right for cruising around town. If you need a little more storage, just unzip the small bag, and zip on the larger bag. If you really need storage, zip the smaller bag onto the larger bag. I have not done this as it is too high to see the gages. I don't know of one person that was sorry that they bought the tri-bag. You need to see one in person to really appreciate it.  :D

I have a medium small Chase Harper magnetic bag that's great for day trips. Stays put with the magnets. Might move around a bit if it has something heavy inside, but stays on the tank.

Also, a larger Eclipse strap on bag. More hassle but more space. Mostly use the mag bag, but the larger one will go to Laguna Seca.

Either way, I rarely ride without a tank bag to hold my misc. stuff.  :wheel:

I bought a magnetic mount, BikeMaster $80. I can fit my Maltese into it. It also holds a case of oil, 2 gallons of milk or passenger's helmet. By the way does anyone knows where I can find a helmet for my dog? I worry about bugs and other debris hitting his eyes.

Don't know about a k9 helmet, but these Doggles should protect the eyes.

I believe ya, I just would love to see a picture of your dog on the back of your ride with googles on. I've seen some mangy dogs on Hardleys, but that was the owners.  :D  May the force be with your dog. biggrin.gif

Thanks everyone for the great input and links. I think I have decided to go with the Tourmaster Tri Bag systems.  With both a smaller and larger option it seems it would work great.  I do think you are right though that using the full system would be tough to use your gauges at all.

I have an IBM T30 which is an average size "notebrick". �It fits with no problems. �If you have one of the big Dells, it will be a squeeze.

There was another post entitled "Commuting with my computer" in this forum that brought up good points about computers and tank bags.  Some concerns are the magnets and vibration.

I just bought the Tourmaster Tri-bag mainly from the review I read here on this forum and it works very good so far.  My local Honda shop Spectrum Motorsports discounted it for me to $134 and I bought me bike used private party.  They seem like a good shop and carry a lot of apparrel, etc.

The bag is excellent and so far in my limited use I cannot find a feature that I miss yet.  I highly recommend the Tri-bag.

noob question here- just got a magnetic tank bag, and was wondering if any other attachments are necessary (bungees) to keep this thing on at highway speeds? Maybe the magnets are enough, but I would be surprised when shes fully loaded with wind etc.

If you have the Tourmaster Tribag you don't have to worry. Mine has not even budged and inch in high wind, and at speeds way over triple digits. This is a great tank bag!!! :cool:

I went with the smaller magnetic Cordura tankbag from TourMaster. �I don't use the straps as my thought was if that hummer is coming off, I want it to fall all the way and get away from me. �Just my .02.

As others have said, once you use a tankbag you'll wonder how you rode without one.

I use the Tourmaster magnetic tank bag too (not the Tri-bag or mini magnetic).  My local dealer had it for over $80, I found it at www.azmotorsports.com for only $59.  Great bag, the magnets hold it tight, it's expandable, has one strap and a decent rain cover.  Also not too big so you don't even know it's there.
