Last Aug I bought a Givi E350 Topcase from Twisted Throttle. Yesteday, a gust of wind (I presume, didn't actually see it happen, but it is pretty windy out here most of the time (approx 20-25 MPH yesterday)) blew open the case top (it wasn't latched, just sitting in the closed position) and broke it completely away from the bottom piece. Both lanyards that prevent the case from opening too far failed, and both hinges snapped clean off.
Has anyone had any similar problems, and/or has anyone ever gone thru TwistedThrottle or Givi about luggage failure? I'm headed to their website now, but thought I'd drop a line here first to see of anyone could offer advice of how to deal with this. The hinges are built into the bottom of the case, so there is no way to repair them short of gluing (which would never hold). Needless to say, I'm a little dissapointed in the ruggedness of the case as it doesn't seem it should come apart that easily.
TIA
I am assuming you weren't driving at the time? Considering the case is made of hardened plastic a strong enough gust of wind would break the mounting points. This isn't necessarily a case failure as really bad luck with the wind. I have a Givi top case and have had no problems...granted I play it safe and secure the top when ever I am not using it. Hopefully you will be able to get a replacement if it is still under warranty.... :goofy:
Never had this problem, but, I would E-mail GIVI.....they are pretty particular about their product standards and customer satisfaction...... .....may turn into a "case should have been fastened" things though.......... :goofy:
Actually both of my latch rope things ( screws ) have stripped out and are now glued in. Thought about calling Givi but not worried about it because my top didn't blow completely off. Givi has always been excellent to me with warranty stuff hopefully they will cover it. Keep us updated.
Thanks for the replies.
No, I wasn't moving/riding. I was unloading the bike and was in the house when it happened.
Didn't even realize Givi had a warranty, or whether I should go directly to them or through Twisted Throttle first. I'll shoot an e-mail off to Givi and see what they say.
There # is 877.679.4484, it will connect you to there distribution place in NC. Really good guys, and you would probably get things done quicker over the phone. I know several of the guys there so let me know if you have any troubles.

I agree with Jason, Givi and TT are good people, give'm a shot.
I had a similar thing happen with the trunk on my BMW... of course, BMW wouldn't cover it as it was "my fault" so they promptly offered to sell me one at a whopping 10% off... which I of course gladly paid and then had nothing but problems with their little strap mechanism in there... be glad you have Givi...
I fired off an e-mail afting posting here yesterday, and by the time I got home from work I had a reply from Givi! He asked for some pics, which I sent, and I had another e-mail this AM asking me to send it back to them and they'd see what they could do.
Two thumbs way up for Givi Customer Service!

Yeah, like I said, they are real concerned about product quality and customer satisfaction. Definetly one of the better companies out there. Good stuff..............
Just to give a happy ending to this story (Hey! No tthat kind, get your minds outta the gutter), I received a package from Givi today - they replaced (in lieu of repairing) the entire topcase for me, including new mounting hardware!
When I bought it, I shelled out the extra dinero for the Candy Apple Red paint to go with the bike. Top was slightly damaged when it blew off, but new unit is blemish free! Thanks again Givi!
Bill
Now that is what I call great customer service! to Givi...congrats on the new case.

Givi works hard to please with customer service. They have made great efforts to help me in the past.
You might want to shoot them an email with a link to this post to let them know that they are appreciated.
