Hello group,
I just wanted to post a review about the Corbin Beetle bags. I have to say my luck has been incredible with these. My best buddie moved to Cali 2 years ago. In that short time he started racing and did very well. He now works for Motorcycle Online. While visiting him during the Fontana AMA race he took me by MO's office to check things out. While drooling over all the test bikes, race bikes and stuff laying around the office. I noticed some red Beetle bags on the top shelf. They had 2" of dust on em. I asked him if they were for a VFR and he said he didnt know. I knew right away. So I climbed up and pulled em down. Sure enough! Bags for a 5th gen! He told me I could have them for free. I just had to pay shipping and he would take care of the rest. So $40 later and I have the bags!
Installation was semi easy. The bags install with 3 mounting points on either side. The brackets lined up with no problems. The major hurdle I had to overcome was the rear bracket that basically mounts to your license plate bracket. When I purchased the VFR I chopped the fender off! So the bracket is now 4" higher than it should be. I inverted the bracket and welded 2 tabs to mount to my lic plate bracket. The brackets are out of site behind the lic plate.
My other problem was I have a TwoBros high mount exhaust. So I installed my stock exhaust and went about installing the bags. (by the way if anyone has a nice used low mount aftermarket exhaust they need to sell email me)
My impressions are mixed. I like the way they look on the bike. The build quality great! They carry the weight down low. This keeps the bike nice and stable. They are a pain in the butt to load. The small opening is the main problem. As far as being weatherproof I do not know. I hit them with the hose for abouts 10 mins and there was no water sepage. I even hit them hard from the underside. I would still bag my clothes for a tour. If you are good at packing you could get a weeks worth in them.
Would I buy them? I dont think so. They cost too much and they arent that practical. There are cheaper and better products out there.
These were free so I cant complain too much. I think if I paid $1000 for em I would be upset.
