Just picked up a OEM topcase off EBAY for $300 bucks. I Couldn't pass that one up. I am planning a trip to Oshkosh next year for the Airshow up there at the end of July. I guess I should get my VTEC into the dealer to get the rear subframe looked at under warranty. I wonder if I can get them to replace it with the new part even if mine isn't cracked? Anyway, anyone else using a top case on the VTEC? How is it working out for you? I also have the saddlebags...How much weight is safe to put back their? I never ride two up. :( Wife refuses to get on a motorcycle...I would guess a loaded topcase and bags without a passenger would really lighten up the front end..
You must have a friend who's at least 250 pounds that would like to help you test the sag for your rear shock, right? A few hard bounces on that seat should reveal those underlying cracks just waiting to show through the subframe paint! �:idea: � I also heard that the 03 doubles as an occasional off road bike very well too. � tongue.gif � I don't think you can load enough stuff in that topcase to even approach the weight of a "regular" passenger, so your subframe should be OK unless you plan on carrying a few steel anvils with you like Mitch Boehm and his riding friends do. :laugh:
I would think enough flexing with an appropriate tool would do the trick on the subframe tongue.gif Hmmmm....maybe not....I'm to honest for my own good. I was thinking about how far back the topcase is mounted and I was considering rewelding the mount so it would sit farther forward. It would be harder to swing a leg over but would move the weight forward and I could possibly make use of the backrest. I also think it would look a little better mounted directly over the saddlebags....
I've also recently purchased the OEM topcase, except I paid a lil' more than you :doh: . I think the weight limit is about 19 lbs back there, I've done 2 rides with it (OEM case) and only had a few things in it, but could'nt see myself riding without it (unless I do a trackday).
My topcase is off again, on again ....... it's fairly easy to do once you get it on the first time. �Just make sure you keep the longer/shorter bolts handy. I don't usually carry really heavy things in it, but it's never been a problem for me. �15 lbs or so in each side bag and a 112 lb passenger plus 15/20 maybe in the top case. �I'm about 160 then add a tank bag up to my chin and that's how i took my first trip. �2,000 miles in 3 days and not a single whine from my g/f or my bike! (the tires ....... now that's a different story lol) Crank up the rear spring a bit and ride, my man! Just make sure it's as evenly distributed in the saddle bags as possible and secure whatever you put in the topcase so it doesn't shift.

Slammer, I don't have it yet but I will post a review of it when UPS decides to drop it off. I think it is a 45 liter case. If it is anything like the OEM saddlebags I have it should be a high quality piece.
�I had two large boxes waiting for me when I got home from work. I took a quick peek at the topcase and mount and initial impressions are great. Not a mark on it. This is a quality piece of luggage! The rear rack it mounts on is a hefty piece of metal. I'm glad I kept the extra lockset I got with the saddlebags so I can have one key for all three bags. (I just have to remember where I put it... :doh: )

No biggie if you can't find the 3rd lock. The bags are made for Honda by GIVI. If you can't find it, gimme a shout, I think I may even have a set of 3 layin' around here somewhere that I'll let ya' have pretty cheap. If I don't, you can get 'em from GIVI ....... no biggie.

The top case is more expensive than Givi, but the fit and finish is superb, even comes with a back pad for the GF. The trunk itself is 45L's, and that's a lot of storage!
