We've all heard the old saying: "There are two types of riders... blah blah blah"

But not all get-offs are created equal:

Some you walk away...
Some you limp away...
Some you are carried away...
And others, well... you float away (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Thankfully, I have only had three level 2 spills (all my own fault, by the way)
#2
Thankfully, only Major injuries, by your description, so far. Even with severe injuries I am afraid I will continue my silly activities until I am no longer breathing.

ETA: Maybe a level is missing. One could suffer a broken rib to qualify for 'major' but a femur broken into a dozen pieces, requiring multiple surgeries, dozens of screws and pins, and 6-12 months to walk on could also qualify.
#3
Ahhh, I'm in the major category right now.

I picked Moderate, but now that I think of it, the last time I crashed at Jennings I think I broke my little toe. Of course this wasn't confirmed, so maybe I should stay in the Moderate class. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I voted moderate. Got a bruise on my calf when I got rear-ended at a yield sign. Bike was totaled, but I never hit the ground.

Which category do I fall in? I've been in an accident, but I haven't been down.

How do you break a small toe and nothing else?

I have done worse in a drunken stupor in a race trying to find bed.

agree jeremy. broke ribs and concussion, but didn't know it for a week....doesn't sound like 'major' to me...

I would say slight in your case...I have to say that you fared very well for a rear ender!

I'm in the moderate. When I crashed I was wearing a long sleave T and jeans(before I had a bike & gear of my own, crashed my dads FJR - Sorry Dad! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ). I'm not sure how this happened but I tore a hole in the knee of my jeans and had rash all along my side and shoulder, but my t-shirt didn't tear (must have been one of those "ballistic" t-shirts from AE (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) )
#10
I thought slight fit me better, but it didn't mention bruises. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I was very fortunate. I was stopped and got plowed into by an 80's Chevy Malibu. The bike rolled forward and I took a big step to the side as it dropped between my legs. Bent the frame under the seat. The Malibu didn't look too pretty either.

I bought another wreck and put the two together. Rode it another 20k miles and sold it for a profit. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Down 2x on my mini-ninja. One at ~30mph, one at 10mph.

I got up and laughed about the 30mph one (That was the only thing to do, laugh or cry as there were plastic bits everywhere).

Knock wood, nothing ....er nevermind, not going to jinx myself.

Well, I guess I'm one of only two severe so far...

In April 1991 I was riding my new-to-me Magna home (bought it that same day) and a lady in a Nissan puleed out in front of me from a side road in traffic.
I had no chance of avoiding her and hit her left fender/bumper.
Her: bent fender and hood.
Me: compound fracture of right femur, bruises, cracked molar, cut in chin=19 stitches, one total loss Honda Magna, one broken helmet.

That one was a total bummer. I spent 28 days in the hospital, five of those in ICU with last rites given once.
Yep, that chick nearly killed me!
I had to wear a steel rod w/ 6 accompanying screws for 5 months. 2 months of physical therapy.
Total of three surgeries.

Then in May 2002 I was rear ended while on my way to work on my beloved 2000 VFR.
Ford Taurus right up the arse.
No injuries from that one other than back spasms for about two weeks.
Gotta love good gear.
Chose a 2002 VFR the same day while at the dealer checking in the wrecked viffer. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fing02.gif)

I was out riding one of my favorite pieces of asphalt last summer, lost track of what was going on thanks to a deer running through a field. Thought I knew the road well enough to stay where I needed without looking. I was wrong. Basically parallel parked my 2005 Suzuki M50 in a small ditch on the side of the road. Stopped INCHES from a barbed wire fence. Came out with a bruise on my shoulder and some pulled muscles. The bike suffered a dent in the front exhaust pipe (from the brake pedal) and the pedal itself more closely resembled a pretzel. It was entirely my fault, it shouldn't have happened, and it made me feel pretty stupid. I laughed it off at first, while the adrenaline was pumping, but a few days later my brain started working right again and I realized what'd happened and how close I'd come to an extended stay in the local ER.

Got it on video too...

plenty of crashes, but ATGATT has saved me each time. Highsided once so hard, my boot flew off!

But I should stay away from pick-up trucks........shattered pelvis, fith lumbar broken in half, hobbled ankle, etc.....

so statistically, bikes are safer.

Anybody wanna watch me play chicken with trucks?

I've never hurt myself on a motorcycle, but I broke every single bone in my face on a mountain bike. Tore off my upper lip and tip of my nose, put my chin in my throat, knocked out teeth, smashed in cheek bones, etc.

Go figure.

Broken pelvis and 2 monthes in hospital. I checked Major, not Severe because I will be riding again very soon.

Holly Molley! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) You better quit riding your mountain bike and ride only your VFR from now on!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I've been down 3 times on the track, all low sides thank God! Once at 50 mph, once at 60 mph and the last one at 87 mph, not a scratch. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Been down once (crash) in the last 100,000 miles on the street, it was on my 2000 VFR and on the Cherohalla Skyway in the rain where I low sided again and slide across the oncoming lane and bounced of the guardrail doing maybe 45-50 mph when I went down. Only bruises. AGATT. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

On a streetbike I have not been hurt too bad. I have broke 3 ribs and chipped a bone in my calf.

On a MX bike I have been hurt bad. The very first bone I ever broke (other than a finger) was my left femur. I snapped it completly in 2 and nearly died of blood loss. Go big or go home. The bones were completly crossed, one end was pointing left the other was pointing right. The doctor actually told me it wouldnt of hurt as bad if the bone would of came thru the skin. The bone was trying it's best to come thru but didnt by just a millimeter.

The worst part of it was that my bones were pointing in diffirent directions. It pulled my muscles so tight that they started to go into spasms(sp). So there I am on the ground with a leg in 2 pieces and the muscles pulling in every direction. When I landed the bike fell on the right side and pinned the throttle wide open. I knew instantly that I was messed up and there is my bike, throttle pinned and going around in circles coming towards me. I will never forget, a 10 year old boy ran, grabbed the bike by the handlebars and hit the kill switch. He saved me from more injuries because I couldnt even crawl out of the way. It took 1 hour for the ambulance to get there and another 30 minutes to get to the hospital.

They were shooting me up with morphine and it didnt even knock the edge off. I had to stay the hospital for a week and it took 6 months to walk halfway normal. I recieved a titanium rod thru my femur from the hip to the knee with 2 screws and 1 pin holding it together.

The second bone I broke was my right heel. I got crossed up on a jump and came off the bike. I landed feet first and mostly in control of my body. My right foot hit first and smashed my heel in to pieces. I didnt even call an ambulance. My riding buddy loaded up and took me to the hospital. We drove right past the crappy hospital and went to the best hospital in the area. I got a plate and 6 screws holding my heel together.

My heel hurts every single day. It gives me a lot more trouble than my femur. My ankle is close to fused togehter. I have very little movement in the joint. The pain can be so bad at times. Pain killers are a lot more fun to take when you dont actually need them.

Other than that I would say I have broke 8-10 ribs, 3-4 fingers, and thats all folks. All of the really bad crashes I have had I didnt break bones. The small crashes that arent so bad are the ones that I got broken bones from.

Oh yeah Mary ellen moffit. She broke my heart, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Here's my crash record. I started riding when I was 16, and at 32 now, I've never been without a bike. I'd consider myself really lucky, but proper gear has helped over the years. I've learned lessons from every crash and every mile I've ever traveled...

Crash 1: Hit a deer, but didn't go down. 1971 Honda CB350

Crash 2: Lowsided the front tire in a parking lot in winter time. Learned my lesson about cold tires that morning. Scraped my knee. 1985 Kawasaki GPz 550

Crash 3: Car pulled out in front of me and I locked up the rear wheel. Bike went sideways and when I let go of the brakes it snapped back and tossed me. Learned my lesson on use of rear brakes. Cage driver never stopped. 1981 Kawasaki KZ750 ltd

Crash 4: Hit a deer. Some road rash on my hands; learned my lesson about wearing gloves. Deer whistles apparently don't work. 1985 Honda Shadow 500

Crash 5: Drunk driver rear ended me. Nothing I could do about it. 1985 Honda Shadow 500

Crash 6: Hit a deer. Deer actually hit me and exploded. Gross. 1985 Yamaha FJ600

Crash 7: Hit a deer. 1994 Ducati 900 Supersport CR

Crash 8: Hit a deer. Sprained my ankle. 1999 Suzuki TL1000R

Crash 9: Hit a deer. Didn't go down. 2003 Honda VFR 800

Crash 10: Hopefully never...

And a video camera! I wanna see the next one. Based on your record, I'm pretty sure we could find a Jap company that would accept to sponsor you and put a decent vidcam on your bike!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) But, from another angle, did you break anything or hurt yourself in ANY one of them crashes?
You've got a WHOLE LOT MORE of experience than me, but I still feel compelled to say be careful out there man. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fing02.gif) On the odd chance that it might work, have you tried one of those deer whistles?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Returning from Deals Gap Sunday with the g/f on the back of the VFR, I watched a deer run right out into the 2-lane hwy and get hit by the PU directly in front of me. Didn't do a thing to the truck, but would have taken us out for sure. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
First time I've actually seen one get hit.

I just checked: Motorcycles are not on the list of approved weapons for deer hunting. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Man, that has to hurt the wallet as well as the body.

Oh yeah, never been hurt on a bike. I keep praying it stays that way.

I had some road rash on my hands from the second deer I hit. And I sprained an ankle from deer #5. Other than that, just bumped and bruised.

The Honda Shadow from deer number two had the deer whistles on it. I guess they don't work...
