For those of you who have a wingrack II installed which supports side AND top cases, my question is this:

Can the entire topcase portion of the rack be removed in the event that I only wish to use side cases? If so, how difficult is the removal/installation?

Thank you.

It could, and it would look OK like that. However, it would not be as rigid without the top case portion. That piece adds a fair bit of stability. Some people add a brace that wraps around by the license plate holder, and if I were going with sidecase racks only, that would be especially good to have.

It would not be difficult to remove it.

Thank you. yes, there are two wingrack continuation peices that bolt to the inside of the rack. they hold up a base that you put your top case mount on. I would say ten mins to take off. My set up is the wingrack without these aformentioned pieces attached. really no prob to switch around.
hope that helped
