It was 70 degrees out today, so Craig and I decided to head out to Salida for a thaw out ride. �This is actually "NEW CONTENT" Whoopee, I finally have something new to post for a change.
Craig hasn't ridden in 6 weeks and myself I rode this last Saturday but before that it had been over a month, �the temperatures have been in the 40's for that last 2 week and we have been dealing with a weekly snow shower.
Craig shows up an my place and so I ask him "So where do you want to go"? he says " I don't know where do you want to go"? �I say " I don't know I asked you first"! �He says " OK lets go south"! �I say "That away"? Pointing south, He says "yea lets go to Salida"
OK its been 4 months since I have been to Salida with Bill, why not?
We took off to Salida and thats Exactly what I did SLLLLLLIDDDDDDDE_DUHHHHHHHHHH! �We made it half way through the trip and I rode over some black ice and my bike fell out from under me!! �I slid about 10 feet on the ice and the bike slid another 30feet. �Nothing like feeling all your traction go out from under you. �I was so pissed off, I had just told Craig an hour before that we need to take it easy on the parts where we where in the shade cause it could be icy. �

We I got up without a scratch and not even sore, my stitch has a bit of a scrape on the elbow and the zipper tab, the bike slide on the ice and scraped the clutch cover and the turn signal, ground off some plastic on the right side but nothing too bad it was ridable afterwords.
Yea I am going to go soak in the tub with some epsom salts. �I need to crack my back, �it feels like sombody punched me in between the shoulder blades. �The stupid woman who drove by with her mouth open really makes me wonder? �Yea thats a motorcycle in the road ya dumb B*(&&(CH Thanks for stopping! �I lifted it up and pushed it off the road and thought it was going to be bad, but the ice must have aborbed the impact cause it was pretty much just a little scraped off plastic and a scrape on the clutch cover.. �She started right up. �Craig was playing traffic cop while I moved it out of the road.
Glad you're all right aside from a little soreness, can't say enough about choosing good gear can we? Look on the bright side Miguel the bikes not in all that bad of shape either.
I was hoping this was a rehash of your last getoff, but I must have been mistakin. Glad to hear your ok. You should be a pro at plastic repair by now. Time to get back on that horse. :(
Started to head out to work today on my bike and got the angry eyes from my wife. WHAT? I said. She says if I go down because I was being stupid and rode when we still have ice in our cul-de-sac and enough sand on the road to qualify as a beach then I am on my own during the recuperation. Even went so far as to say I'ld need to find an assisted living center! Alright then, I'll drive instead but tomorrow is suppose to be warmer and 65 degrees today should do away with the icey parts. Sorry to see the rash.
Miguel, man I'm glad you're OK, but I'm bummed to hear about the slide. You've tempted fate with these cold weather rides, but I know you just can't stay put when the weather's nice and the mountains are calling to you. When the weather warms up a bit let's take the F650s out for a little trail riding.

Yea it was the same side too, I need to replace the turn signal and the right lower, I might just sand and paint the clutch cover black. I could replace it but its costly.
I woke up with a slight soreness It just feels like I slept wrong. Aerostich "Thanks for saving me from pain"!!
It really gives you a good case of road rage when some cager looks at you or better yet honks when they go by like you are a inconvenience to them. (Yeah Buddy just come on back here an catch this rock with your window. :angry: ) At least you aren't too banged up. :beer:
Larry it was nice on HWY 50, the temp gauge was showing 70!! Just that one stuipid slab of ice, Craig rode around it but, me? When we rode back I got a better look at it, it was shaped like a wedge so even though I was going 30mph and upright It just wedged me off my bike, it took up half the lane! In a section without snow melt treatment. everywhere else you could see the dried up salt on the road.
It was a combo of sun in my eyes, riding into a shaded area, the ice is the same color as the road, I just didnt see it so I didnt ride around it. At least I had sense enough to slow down first.
Keep that thing upright Man! Good to hear your okay though. You guys are making me drewl :O ! I want to ride so bad. I am so mad that I didn't even take the bike to work today. I think I have enough tread on the tire to make another hundred miles. I am going to go buy a new tire this week. Hopefully I will get lucky and get soem good days to ride soon. I love Winter but not when it comes to riding!
Miguel, Glad to hear you are O.K. Hang in there. I always like to look at events like this as opportunies. You can do some fun stuff with your VFR now.

The fixing budget is a bit low these days, gotta get my cage up to snuff too. Boy it was so nice, we tore up a few of the curves that were in the sunshine, and clean. Then we would slow way down when the shady parts came along, but alas it was my day to go down. I think it scared Craig more than it did me. He said I went down like one of those superbike guys slide for a bit and stood right up, then go lift the bike off the road!
and i hadn't even read the "salida" thread here at VFRd, i linked over from the "unimpressed with my aerostich" thread at ST-N. i kept looking at the dates trying to figure outhow i managed to miss it!
i took a quick (~2 mile) jaunt on my bike the other day and i almost dumped it for the same reason. i wasn't even being careful. i just whipped it out onto the road without a thought in my head. the back end took a walk on me and my brain went "oh yeah, it's february in upstate new york and there's two feet of snow on the ground." duh.
NO man Salida is a mountain town smack in the middle of Colorado. 14,000 foot Collegiate peaks surround the place on the west side. It is the cross roads from Monarch Pass 10k and Poncha Pass 9k. We were on Hwy 50 which snakes along the Arkasas river for 60 miles on one very fast road, its a lot of sweepers, and unfortunalty some icy spots in Feb. Craig smacked into a white tail deer coming out of the Arkansas Canyon last year, this was my turn for the worse. Hopefully I have that unpleasantness behind me for a very long time now. I was sort of spooked in the shade after that but got over it. There were lots of spots where the road was sunny and clean, we leaned it over for the first time in over a month.
