Fog City will never get my money agian

Last fall I bought 3 fog city inserts for my 3 helmets. My pinlock on my Nolan was worn out and the fog city jobs were amber, so I though I would be happy. I followed the directions and installed one on my Nolan.

Crap. Total crap. It was worse than if I hadnt put anything on there. Fogged up, glazed over and condensed all over the place. In fact it was dangerous. I thought that maybe it was my fault with the installation, so I put a second one in there, being really careful to do it right and follow the directions. More crap. I couldnt see out. 8 hours later, it was still gogged over and I pulled over and ripped the offending piece of dung off my visor.

I wrote to Fog City on Jan 21, explaining the problem and I wasnt rude, but I was truthful. An excerpt: " I am disappointed in your products and I was hoping that I could switch from the pinlock system. I would like to hear your thoughts about this and I do intend on reporting to my motorcycle on-line forum, VFR Disciussion.com (6000 members) the results of this correspondence. I hope a satisfactory result can be attained because I was under the impression that your products had a good reputation. Thank you in advance for any assistance."

I got this response on Jan 25 : "...I'd like to get you a free replacement, if you would be so kind as to provide me with your shipping address I will send one right out to you. Sorry for the delay in my response. We have been changing internally and it's been a bit crazy. Richard Marlin"

I was suprise that a friendly reminder worked and I told the guy how cool that was in a reply: "...Thank you for your personalized response, Mr. Marlin. I am very pleased to be doing business with a company that stands behind it's products. I will be happy to report your promt and kind response to my fellow riders at VFRD.com, and send you a link to the positive report." I also enclosed my address.

Well, it is April and after 2 reminders I must tell you all that Fog City products are trash, and thier reps are garbage to boot. I will NEVER, EVER give them another dime. I ask that none of you give them any of your dimes.

Pinlock now has a lifelong customer. At least their products work.

Dont you have a Nolan? My N102 came with a pinlock type anti fog insert, but I got it all scratched up and now I cant see through it. I made a mistake and went riding with it on the piggy in a very dusty dirty trip for 3 days last summer and it got scratched when I tried to clean it out in the field. Do pinlock visor inserts work on the Nolan?

Yes, Nolan use licensed Pinlock technology. My father tells me that because it's licensed from Pinlock, it's the older technology and the new versions do have the silicon rubber bead around the edge of the insert, so there is an air gap between the visor and the pinlock insert.

The European Pinlock website says that you can buy one from Pinlock or from Nolan, take your pick. Can't say if the old man is right about the OEM Nolan inserts being different to the Pinlock branded ones though - might pay to do some Internet research!

I will join your boycott, I have never used Fog City. But I love my Pin Locks on the HJC I got :fing02:

I ride alot when it is well under freezing, so the open a little option is no good for me.

You see, I did not know then that any pinlock would fit in the Nolan. Now I know (this place is great). While I was pondering a new pinlock, I pulled the trigger on the Fog City. (large mistake)

I made the fatal mistake of buying an AGV to replace a Shoei, only to find they don't make Pinlock inserts for AGV. I tried a Fog City and within a week I ripped it out and literally hurled it as far as I could. I then rode home in pouring rain with my visor open, using my sunglasses to take the rain. Those AGV visors are like one big Fog City - one drop of moisture and you may as well be looking through vaseline!!

I did my research before buying the N102 - in Australia they come with the insert from the factory. Not sure if each helmet purchase comes with a free Pinlock in the USA though?

No boycott here, in fact the Fog-city is the preferred choice on the Shoei visors (RF900 and X11).

Maybe they just haven't got the angles right for the Nolan?

I had the same problem with my Fog City visor insert many years ago. It does work for cold weather to keep most of the fog away from the visor, but if you get caust in real wet weather, the insert caoting gets saturated and turns into a very blurry mess you cannot see through. I actually had to fully open my visor during one real bad rainstorm to even see the tailights in front of me. Baaaddd....reeealll Baaadddd :mad: !...... Lucky I didn't have to use it too long as i had replaced my BMW System 2 helmet that had it with a Shoei X8 that defogged much better so I didn't have to use it anymore.
I do have a Pinlock system on my X-Lite Checa Replica helmet and it does work much better than the Fog City IMO. Only problem I have with the Pinlock is the upper line where the pinlock lens ends is sometime right in my sight line when I tuck in behind the fairing windshield and all I can see is that big line hwere the seam is.

Ahh, go ahead and buy an Arai. I heard they work good with those.

Just get an electric shield and plug it in, see what snowmobilers use and go from there.

I think my Pinlock visor is some of the best money I've spent - I can't get the thing to fog. Rode 5 hours in the rain, temps ranging from 50 - 70 and it wouldn't fog even with the chin-vent closed. One nice piece of inventin' there! :fing02:
