OK, best I can figure: Third session, past halfway in the session, left hander turn 10, lost the rear briefly, then it caught and sent me over. Going from left to right, I think it sent all that energy through my left foot and ankle, which is why it's so sore. I must have landed on my hands. My left pinky and ring finger hit then that hand rolled up into a fist, right hand on the outside of my right pinky, then again rolling up. Must have then hit right elbow, then hip, then head on the top right forehead area. I didn't wear through anything, I don't think, but my elbow must have torn from impact. The leathers and my under shirt (tight stretchy Under Armor type thing) aren't ripped. But I have a pretty good bleeding wound there, and another on the right pinky knuckle. I must have hit my chest on something (tank?) as I have sore ribs and a small bruise on my upper chest and had the wind knocked out of me briefly. The brand new Alpinestars back and chest protector must have done good. If I bruised through it, I'd hate to think what it would look like without it!
So after I landed, I took a moment to lay there and recoup. Eventually I decided that the ground felt awfully pavementy, as opposed to grassy, so I decided to have a look around. After seeing I'm on track, and bikes are coming by, I crawled off into the grass. Sat there for another moment, and after getting my breath back was able to get up and look around. Bike was on the right side in the middle of the track, and since the bikes were all off by now I walked over to it and turned the key off and tried to shift it into neutral. By now medics were motioning me over to them, so off I went to talk to them.
Bike hit on the brake lever and master cylinder, and broke the fairing stay and the instrument cluster mounts. Starts and revs up nicely! Frame saver saved my right side radiator and clutch cover! Bodywork and tank are rashed up nicely on the right side, and rear brake pedal is bent. Nothing too serious. All track stuff, and easily fixed.
I feel pretty beat up... Taking a couple days off and see what happens later in the week.

Seems you faired well considering what the oputcome could have been. Glad to hear your OK..

After 2 days @ jennings in Dec I still hadnt figured out or had the testicule fortitude to push turn 10. It combines into a tricky multiangled decreasing radius...

Now go heal up.

No broken bones or torn ligaments is always a good thing.
Glad you came out relatively OK.
Spend a few days in bed cuddling some ice packs.
#4
Glad you are relatively okay Kev. Did you end up going by yourself?? Guess you were done riding for the day?? How about pictures of the bike??

A word of caution..

Good luck healing up Kevin!

Yeah, drove down on my own but a couple guys that are there every time I go were there and helped with the loading. No pics yet, garage is too far away at this point...

After 30+ years of riding, I high sided last summer for the first time and had similar hand, arm, and upper body "ouchies". Gear works but I'll take low siding any day!

I assume you were on the 51. Those bikes can take a good beat down but get right back up and do it again. Hopefully you can too! :fing02: The next couple of days are going to be "fun". You might want to go to the doc for a check up or, if for nothing else, some percocet. :warranty:

Oh dang Doug, you sold your RC51?
Yeah they can take a beating better than I can!

glad to see you posting up kevin....means you are at least reasonably ok...heal fast....Tally is in a month and a 1/2 :)
#11
Gald you are OK Kevin. Heal up fast. Which bike did you go down on?
#12
Take it easy, you don't know how bad you are really beat up yet.
#13
Wish you rapid healing. And good work analyzing your high side; definitely the best way to prepare yourself to be faster/smarter. Was there any video taken at the track by others that saw the event?
#14
That sounds scary laying on the track as bikes go by. Glad no one hit you or your bike. I hope your soreness goes away soon.
#15
Glad to hear you're well enough to post.

Thanks all!
No, I didn't get nearly the air time that you got Bailey. Turn 10, I'm in 3rd gear, so not super high speed. Also I didn't land feet first.
Looking at my gear today I'm retiring yet another pair of gloves (torn top of the right pinky, and various rashed bits), another helmet (definite deformation of the inner liner on my upper right forehead area), and the leathers (took two good crashes, and this one really hit hard on my right forearm/elbow which seems to have dented the armor in that area).
New SIDI boots came through fine with a few scratches here and there, and the A*s chest/back protector seems to have done the job!
Thanks to Ken (wera803) and his Big Ear ear plugs, the medic thought I was pretty loopy when she was talking to me! Once she saw me taking them out, and I could hear her clearly, she was much more assured I was ok (relatively...)

And Tharkun: was the '01 RC51. Which will live to fight another day!

Uhh, never thought of that as a downside to wearing them. http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif
