Which of these two tanks bags?

I've read a ton of good things about the Tourmaster Tri Mag Tank Bag ... I believe Ulews and H.S. both use it. �I found it for $129.99 including the rain cover. �Here is the link:

However, here is the Held Tank bag for less than HALF the price. �But, I haven't found any reviews.
Held Performance Tour Tank Bag (only $59!)

Anyone with experience using the Held Tank Bags? �Is the Tourmaster Tri bag worth the extra $70?? �If so, I'll get it. �Otherwise, I'd be foolish not to jump on the Held bag for only $60!

I'm needing a larger bag (than my current JR small tank bag) for a 400 mile trip to Deal's Gap, etc. in 2 weeks.

Pony up for the tribag. I have had mine for 2 years and it is still holding up great with no rips or tears. The magnets hold even in high wind and high speeds. Well worth the money and I guarantee you won't be sorry.  :cool:

Ditto on the tribag. The bag is well made, tough, and the magnets have plenty of stick. A solid piece of gear.

Yea, you could spend the big bucks, but for the money, the Held is the way to go - well made, lots of room, includes the base - I liked it so much I just ordered one to replace my Eclipse!  I also like dealing with New Enough.

If you plan to put your wallet in the bag, don't use a magnetic base - 'else you might mess up your credit cards.

Did you guys not notice the regular price of $169 on the Held Bag? I'd go that way deffinatly.

I was about to pull the trigger on the Held. Then I saw that the "Wing Magnet Base #1468" is sold out. Any ideas how well the "Super Magnet Base #1467" would work on an '04 tank? (I'm trying to ignore the labeling of "GLASSES" on the front of the bag �:shake: )

Wow - that was a tough decision.  I truly live by Tourmaster products as I have pants, 2 jackets, tail bag and gloves!  However, $59 is just too hard to turn down.  

I just placed my order for the Held Performance bag from NewEnough. If I find that the super base doesn't hold well, I can always pick up the wing base as s single item...just hate to spend $25 or $30 on it unless I absolutely need to.

P.S.  If I don't like the bag ... I can always sell it and get the Tri-bag from Tourmaster.  The "american" way!   biggrin.gif

I purchased the Held tank bag from Newenough.com .......Its huge. With the 2 compartments zipped together,  PLENTY of room for long trips, or use either compartment for day trips.........cant beat it for the money.....

I bought the Held Tank bag and Tourmaster Cortech Sport Saddlebags and Tailbag just in time for it to snow again. Just need someplace to go........ sad.gif

I would consider the Tourmaster and the Held comparable in quality, features, etc....so, it's down to price and you sure can't beat $59.00.     I bought the Held bag 3-4 weeks ago (when the wing base was still available) and I absolutely love it!   Build quality is A+++, features are outstanding, the magnets hold wonderfully (been up to 90 so far with it)
Plus, you get to deal with Newenough which is always a joy.

I have a Held tank bag which I like a lot. It's smaller than this one, but fits the tank well and works great. Also, should anybody want to replace the magnets that come with these bags with "stickier" magnets go to this web site: http://www.wondermagnet.com. They have incredibly strong magnets that are the same size as the ones on most tank bags. It's a cool company and they happen to be my buddies (no I don't get a commission). Cheers.

Since the winged base is sold out, everyone is looking at the Super Magnetic Top for the flat gas tank, is anyone considering the velcro strap base?? How would this hold compared to the magentic base?  You can go to http://www.held-usa.com  and order the winged base for $29.95.

Still a good savings compared to any other tank bag of that size.

That Held tankbag looks small. If the quality is as good as the Cortech, my hats off to them. If it holds as much stuff and has as strong a magnet, my hats off to them. If it converts to 3 different types of bag, (small, medium, and large), then my hats off to them. I wonder why they are selling for so cheap?  :cool:

Held looks like a close out price? �I have the tribag myself on ULEWZ suggestion. �its a great bag! �I love the back pack straps on the big bag and the arm sling on the little one. �I use that darn bag all the time! �The big on for extended trips, never used them all zipped together yet, its too much that way.  the only thing I dont like about it is that the small bag slants forward which makes it difficult to look at the map window while sitting on the bike.

Now that its been a week or two since this beginning of this post, some people said they were going to get the HELD bag with the super (flat) Magnetic base, opposed to the velcro/straps.    Can anyone inform me how well the flat base holds on the newer bikes??? Any complaints or praises about the bag upon receiving it?   Thanks for the info.

I have one of their smaller winged bags and am very happy with it. The bag comes with a tether that attatches to your steering head and a rain cover. Might be worth looking at.

I've got RKA bags on both of my bikes.  I think they're 16 liter bags, and are strap-on, not magnetic.  They've held together pretty well over the past few years.  

While I'm thinking of it, I bought a Platypus water system at REI before I came on my trip.  I tossed the canvas container and just put the bladder in my tank bag, letting the hose out through the zipper hole.  Cool water without having to stop the bike is nice stuff!

A vote for the tribag here.  Used it for 8 months.

Very versatile.  Small bags works for general commuting.  Large bag holds laptop and much more.

Never had an issue with PDA, laptop, or MP3 player from magnetic base.

I received the Held bag a few days ago.  I'm very happy with the quality of the bag.  It is very nice.  I haven't ridden with it yet ... I'll try out the lower portion this weekend and then the entire bag zipped together next weekend on a trip for 3 days to TN area.  The Super Magnetic base appears to have a stable enough contact area for the flat VFR tank.

I bought the velcro base version of the held, but I returned it. The velcro base design was kind of sucky, and not at all what I expected. I guess I should have kept the bag and ordered a magnet base from held, but oh well.
I have a Wolfman tank bag that rules, but I wanted something bigger.

I use the tri-bag daily- 2 years no problem.  Love the small bag as it can easily become a bit larger with an easy unzip- the handle is great as well- good quality stuff!

I bought both the Performance Tour and the Performance Sport bag.

Build quality on both was pretty good I thought, though the zippers are a bit chintzy (I think) for a bag that I plan on using hard.

I am sending back the Tour bag though... toooooo big (at least for me).  I can't even see my windscreen with the thing mounted, much less my speedo.

I got the regular magnet base and it seems to be fine at reasonable speed (though the insert says to limit speed to 130 kph).

The sport bag has built in straps that allow it to be used as a backpack off the bike... I like that.  Thing is, because of the cheapo zippers it is a pain in the butt to remove the bag, and leave the base.  I will use the Held bag for weekend trips, but day in/day out... I will stick with my Marsee bag.

I ordered the set after I read about it here. �For the price, it's hard to go wrong. �I have a full Bagster set up for my ST11 but nothing for my VFR.

The things that are better than the bagsters are the hard sides that maintain their shape. �My Bagsters are softsided and flop around unless I have them fully packed.

Other good things:
The map window is very long with a side entry so you can access a front sheet and a rear sheet. �

The top bag has a velcro opening for quick access while riding. �A positionable divider lets you decide what you want exposed during in-motion access.

Both bags have nice molded handles for comfortable carrying plus the sholder strap.

The bags are just the right height for a head rest on the long rides.

The downsides are:
The zippers. �The zippers themselves aren't to bad. �It's those cheap thin pull rings. �I plan on cutting those off right away and replacing them with string loops or keyrings.

The lower bag opens from the front so there will be no in-motion access to it. �A consolation is the two large side pockets.

The top bag side netting is non-elastic and too tight to secure much in there. �Maybe it will loosen up as time goes on.

There is no way you can look over the bags and see the gauges. �I'm 6'1" and even with Helibars I can barely see the windshield. �I kept the bags off center to the right so I can see the speedo.

In the end, I think they are up to the task of long trips. �There may be better bags out there but these will do the trick. �Expecially if you can get them at the closeout price.

i have to throw in an applause for marsee tankbags.  i have this marsee magnetic tank bag.  have owned it for 2 years now and still am so impressed by it.  sits pretty low as standard.  release a zipper and it expands so easy.  even has a laced quick pull draw string that pulls down the whole top so you have no extra slack when the bag is expanded but only partially loaded.  it neve wiggles the bag hasnt yet put a scratch or wear mark in any of the bikes ive had,   great stuff
