Sidi Vertebra II Replacement Soles

Hi all,

I did a quick search on the net and found a few places that sold replacement soles for newer model Sidi's but nothing for my Sidi Vertebra II's.  The boots are still in great shape but typical of my last pair of Sidi's, the soles are hard, slick and worn.  They are used for commuting and track days so they have seen their fair share of abuse.

I'd hate to toss them just because of the soles.  Has anyone had any luck unglueing and replacing the soles with either a Sidi replacement or from a boot repair place?

I tried calling Motonation but kept getting their voice mail box (which was full).

You might try a local cobbler..... If they can't do it, they probably know where to send them.... and you could possibly get a sticky sole for them as well.

Have you tried asking Sidi? Just saying.

Motonation is the US Distributor and I cannot get a hold of them.  I will keep trying.

I would call SIDI! I had a pedal bike shoe that I had of there's fixed at the shop. It might have been a little more, but the workmanship was the same as when I first bought them. Just my opinion though :biggrin:

My vertebra soles gave out several thousand miles ago.  I ordered a set of THESE at Motorcycle-Superstore but they stayed on back-order so long I finally cancelled the order.  Haven't tried to order them again.

I usually put used bicycle tire on the heel of the boots, the soles never wears out and offers better traction.

When I look at Motonation's web page on repair and warranty info, it appears that Sidi boots only have a 2 year warranty against manufacturing defects.  I suspect that wearing out the soles won't count, so I don't know that you'll get free service by contacting Motonation.

It appears that Motonation has email addresses for one of their sales people on their contact us page - you could always try an email.

Personally, I have had numerous pairs of Sidis over the years; at one point, I wanted to see if they could resole a pair of waterproof Sidi boots for me.  Motonation could not offer to do that kind of work, but they recommended (as listed on the same repair and warranty page) Jim at Factory Resole.  He did a good job of replacing the soles - however, they had to use a little bit of the boot material for the regluing, so it's like the boots lost a tiny amount of space - maybe a 1/4 of a US shoe size (not even a half size down).  However, because these were so just-right snug before, they became uncomfortably tight after being resoled.  

But that's not a reflection upon their work - just upon my having boots that had very little extra room to begin with.

Thanks for all the responses.  I did email Motonation and received a reply today.

Here is the replacement part.

Unfortunately, they do not have my size in stock.  Hopefully soon.

I have a pair of Sidi's and 2 pairs of Alpinestars that need to be resoled. My local cobbler says that he cannot do it and he is a motorcycle rider. My problem seems to be poking a hole in the sole at the ball of my foot. I apparently put too much weight on the pegs while riding at the track or the soles are just too soft. :angry:

How do you attach it?? Some sore of rubber cement?

Used bicycle tire, even an old knobby would be perfect. My alpinestars soles are shot. The boot's are still good but I am walikng on plastic now, no sole and it's slick as hell in the wet.

I have an unlimited supply of old bike tires. BRILLANT!

I use super glue for quick bonding and it has stayed intact for the past two years. I guess rubber cement could be used but may  take a long time to bond.

So you do it when the boot is new? I Have some epoxy that is the 5miute type that woluld work great. I know what I am doing tomorrow tonight.

My soles are gone and my left slider area is pretty messed up. I have big feet and cant help but drag the boot even with proper positioning. The structure of the boot is fine, though worn, I trust them.

I guess the thinner the tire is better Need to clamp the tire to hold it in place? My wife is an expert at cutting stuff out, graphics etc. I will have her cut out some tires to make new soles. They should turn out pretty good. I never thought of it.  Thanks.

He also recommended Jim at Sole Performance in Encinitas, CA for the install.  I gave him a call and he charges $98 to resole road race boots (including the soles).  He actually puts on a modified (so it doesn't catch on rear sets) motocross sole which is more durable (not as soft) but still maintaining sufficient grip.

I may give Sole Performance a try since the stock Sidi sole wears out pretty quickly.  I will post results.

My Sidi's have that plastic heal gaurd and a screw that holds it in place - the screw head chewed the hell out of my rear set on the veefalo, hate that!

Put a dab of liquid electrical tape or Plasti-Dip over the head. Will save the scratching and easy to peel off if you need access to the screw.

Hrm, I have an old set of Teknic Violators that need resoled. The rest of the boots are in good shape. I'm going to check these guys out.

I received my Vetebra II's back from Sole Performance and I have to say, from appearance and service alone, they look great.  Attached are some before and after pics.  Turnaround time was about a week including shipping.  They are only about 2 hours south so ship time was a day or two.

Haven't actually got to ride in them due to the deluge of rain SoCal has received the past week.  Hopefully they last a while.
