Help with oem top case install

I picked up my new top case last night, and tonight started the install. �All was going well until I came to installing the rear carrier base. �After tightening all bolts the base can still slide side to side. �The plate which the base mounts to has slotted holes. �The bolts for mounting pass through a nylon collar/washer on one side of the plate and a nylon washer on the other.

This leads me to believe this is the intention; to have the base and in turn the top case slide from side to side in these slots! �So either I've screwed up or there is some reason for having this small, 3/8 to 1/2" side to side freedom. �Possibly to allow for shifting of items in the case, so the case shifts slightly to prevent any damage? �As you can tell I'm grasping here, but I've checked this over several times and I can't see why they would use slotted holes and nylon washers otherwise. �???

Any help from someone who has done this install or has the top case would be great. �BTW, the case looks great and really suits the bike. �It should also go a long way in keeping my wife on the back, her feet came off the pegs the other day as I left a light......she wasn't to happy about that..... wheel.gif

A little info on the top box yes indeed it is made to move slightly side to side .Even though the bags and top box  were made by Givi the brackets were made by a German company five star. I think a lot of the design work on this particular 6th generation vfr was carried out by Honda Germany.I believe the German goverment regulators, Tuv I think its called has very particular regulations about high speed stability of official accessories.Some of the previous generaton Gold wings had funny short trunks in Europe  for instance . I think the slots in the top box takes some of the potential high speed air turbulance inputs off of the chasis.Better the box to do a little bit of a jive then the back end of the bike . I'm quite sure the closing air current coming off the fairing is right around where the top box is . I'm sure its a bigger deal cruising at 100 mph on the autobahn then here in North America.Thats my two cents worth anyways tks
