I had my VFR looked at today with its 8000 mile service. Enclosed are the pics of the Honda paper work for the recall. Had no leakage and everything measured as it should be.
But they say if your Vin.plate has a punch mark on it don't check or repair, it's already been done ! Yah, if I'm not mistaken they used a punch mark to show that the Alt. Recall has been performed :blink: maybe it's in a different place, but with all the clowns that work in half the shops out there it wouldn't surprise me that they will look at any bike that's had the Alt. Recall punch and say "Your bikes been check already" <_<
The other thing I noticed is that "1" 2002 VFR/A (ABS) bike #.......2M400536 is the only problem 02 bike(ABS equipped anyway). :huh: :beer:

I have a 2002 ABS with a vin that ends in 476 which is before the recall number for the "1" 2002 ABS that is recalled. I wonder what the difference would be since 2003 and 2004 are also affected. I did have the recall work done on the Alternator and Seat Rail and there are two punch marks on the frame at the front of the VIN. If the brake recall work is done, it shows the punch mark to be at the end of the VIN. At my dealer, all work is entered into the computer, so I don't think they will try to tell me the work has been done if my bike is affected by the recall. I'll just have to wait and see if my bike is affected. I checked the Honda Owners Link web site today and it still lists my bike as having no recalls.
My other question about this recall is if they find no leaks, nothing is done (ie: no parts replaced). Who is to say that a leak won't develop in a few months or so, then the dealer would say that the recall work was done due to the punch mark on the VIN. Makes you wonder.

But since there is only one VIN identified as affected for 02 vfr's with ABS I suspect that someone at Honda Corporate put something wrong into their database and our bikes may possibly be affected as well.
Also, from someone else's post, if you read the recall note closely, you'll see that they put the "corrected" stamp on the VIN plate on the left side of the bike, while the other recalls have them stamp the "corrected' stamp near the VIN stamped number on the right hand side of the bike, so there should be no confusion.

would it be alright?

Ditto on the thanks Adam. Good Work! I'm still hoping my bike isn't affected, although I'm not holding my breath. My rear brake is solid as a rock though. So are the fronts.

What dealer do you use in the SF Bay Area? I also live near SF and bought my bike at Cycle West in Petaluma. They are a small dealership, although there service department is pretty good, and they are the ones that did the other recall work on my bike.
I usually go to Cycle Center in Fremont since it is closest to my house.

I had been riding my bike a couple weeks ago when we had some nice weather here in Colorado. I noticed break fluid leakage and the bike has been in the shop since (ordering parts). It's all coming together now... Thank the VFR Gods that this happened in the winter, and thanks for the info on teh recall! :beer:

Where did you notice the fluid? I'm seeing some on top of the chain guard, in the middle of the decal area by the shifter. Just curious.

There is a valve for the linked braking system right above the decaled part of the chain guard. Take your seat off and the left side black plastic cover and look at it. the cover has two pull pins to remove it. Look for the leaks there, if there is one, take it to the dealer. Or it just might be a loose conection, try to carefully retighten it. Hope that helps

Thanks! I'll check -- it's not a ton of fluid, but enough to want to diagnose the source. Perhaps they'll catch it during the tech bulletin inspection (I mentioned the issue when I dropped it off this am). Ride safe.

When I had my VFR services yesterday, the dealer had just recieved the recall. Honda has yet to send out the notices.
I just got my 03 VFR a month ago and the person I bought it from had no recall service done. The owners link does not list out any recall service. Does the Alternator recall apply for an 03 VFR non-ABS and are there any other items that I should be concerned with? I know that my VIN falls into the group needing the brake recall and I plan to take the bike in, once the salt is cleared from the road.
