My 4th gen at the moment... Just finished checking valve clearances (still within spec after 107,000 km!) and waiting for a clutch cover courtesy of Seb.

It's a Sargent seat which is WAY different from a Corbin seat.
@ vfr
Close. Kill Devil Hills.
According to Wikipedia, "The town is home to the site of the Wright brothers' first controlled, powered airplane flights on December 17, 1903, which were commemorated by the Kill Devil Hill Monument, which was dedicated in 1932. At the time of their flight, the town of Kill Devil Hills did not exist, having received its municipal charter in 1953. Kitty Hawk, popularly noted as the site of the famous flights, is approximately four miles (6 km) to the north, and was the nearest settlement at the time of the famous flight."

Its actually not- there is a baffle inside the muffler tip that keeps it reasonable. Its obviously louder than stock or 2bros bolt ons but its no louder than a any other large displacement bike with aftermarket pipes.

That is my picture/seat that you are talking about. I tried a Corbin on my ST1100, for about a week. It was heavy and didn't fit the bike or my anatomy very well. I ended up with a Travelcade Stealth that I absolutely loved! When I moved on to the VFR, I found that I hated the way the stock seat jammed me up against the tank. I like riding close to the tank, but this was too intimate. I immediately thought of the Travelcade, but found they didn't make one for the VFR. I refused to even look at the Corbin based on my past experience and the reviews here. The consensus was that the Sargent was a good choice. I like the Sargent. It is a big improvement over the OEM, but not as good as the Travelcade was on the ST. I did have to modify the cowl to get it to fit right. Was easy to do, but now it won't fit the OEM seat should I chose to go back.
Edit: Looks like Travelcade is now Saddleman. They have cover and foam kits for the 6th Gen VFR. Two different materials and a choice of sport or touring foam. http://www.saddlemen.com/honda/vf-vfr-series

Yep, Beeville TX event. My final run (I only got 4 in) was an official 145.4 from standing start thru mile trap ... she was approaching 150 near the 1st brake markers and I let off, could have held out longer & still have braking space, but this was my 1st experience with any LSR type event so I was playing things safe ... of course, any top speed past the mark would not have been 'official', would have been just for me ...

Yes, speedo healer installed. Don't recall BRs theory so I'm not sure why these gals wouldn't pull to redline in 6th ... given enough distance anyway.

I think the theory related to not having enough torque to over come the wind resistance in the higher gear... top speed at redline in 5th may be higher than top speed in 6th if unable to pull to redline.
Because 95whp isn't going to push a bike this size 178mph

Never been completely flat out on it. Only 145mph or so. I think that was in fifth (cant be sure) n still pulling nicely.
6th always feels quite a step up in ratio from fifth though.
I reckon 5th is the gear to be in myself

Half the comfort from Corbins comes from the shape they give the saddle. You can have the nicest padding on them but if the shape is not right, it will never be a comfortable saddle....
Every Corbin I ever rode felt like it was shaped exactly to my butt. I think Corbin just knows a universal design that fits a really big percentile of the riding public. I'm not sure why they won't extend that to designing saddles different for men and women too, as it certainly works for bicycle saddles and can further expand their business in a big way.

Good point. There is a bracket that is supported by the OEM fender, so soft bags is the way to go for you, I think.
If I can fit 6th gen bags on my 4th gen, a "plate tuck kit" should not pose a serious challenge.... :goofy:

Its really no problem at all to mount the hard bags if your plate is tucked up. I just did it to mine. My plate was tight up in between the pipes and I had no factory fender. I was able to to use almost all the OEM mounting hardware and just relocated the plate. It really was no big deal and turned out looking pretty good.

Any pics mate? (:
Here are a couple but they don't show much detail. I just got these on the bike a few weeks ago.
I actually just used all the OEM frame mounting hardware and used a little aluminum flat bar to make a plate mount. And a couple of LED plate lights to make the tag legal for night time. I wanted to keep the tag up higher but this actually worked out pretty good and I was able to remount my little extra LED brake lights just above the plate.
I will see about getting you a few better pictures if you would like me to.

Interested in how you attach the plate to the seat sub frame .
It was easy, just bolted the the long bracket right where it was suppose to go in the first place and mounted the plate to the cross brace. I just dont have any of the OEM fender parts, PO took them off when he tucked the plate up high and tight. It only took about 30 minutes to mount it all up but if took me a bit longer to decide how I wanted to remount my plate in a way that I would be happy with it.
Since it seems a couple of you are interested in it, I will get some better pictures this weekend and do a short write up on it. It really was not hard at all and turned out looking decent. Look for a little write up here in the 6th gen area so I wont be taking over this picture thread.

Here is my 2 week old to me, 2004 VFR. 7900 miles on it when I got it. I've already added another 800. I can't seem to stay off it. I actually got it for my daughter to ride with me. She may never get to use it again  . Found the luggage on Craigslist. I'm really happy I found this website.

Welcome!!!
... and that is wonderful that you get to ride with your daughter!!! Don't bogart the Viffer... let her have a taste of the good stuff too!!!
Wow - that '04 looks mint! Congrats. You can never have too many VFR's . . .
Would love to have the wife join me on occasion but she has made it perfectly clear that is not likely to happen. Not even if I got a Gold Wing. Daughter has ridden only once and son looked at me rather oddly when I offered to pay for his MC course.

You have got to be kidding me? My daughters want to ride, but my wife will not allow anything other than around the neighborhood.

It's on permanent display in Port Burwell, Ontario, on lake Erie. I was passing through last summer on the way home from picking up the beetle bags. It probably is a British one but I didn't have time for the 10$ tour, have to go back this summer and check it out.
8 spoker sorted!
What do we reckon? (:

Yeah baby " THE DRAGON".
Got to run the Dragon with the new bike .
I know I just posted a picture of my 5th gen, but I figured the first ride deserves a picture too...
Got out for a ride this afternoon. I cannot believe how nice it's been the past few weeks. The official high temp here today was 69, but some in some outlying areas it was higher. And it's still winter . . . I can't wrap my brain around the snow and ice so much of the country's been having - around here it's been like spring / summer.
Gave Jamie's re-worked suspension a good workout. The stiffer, linear rate springs produce a harsher ride, but wow has the cornering improved! Like everything else in life, a tradeoff.

Another (probably silly) question from me here haha.
Howcome do many of the US vfr's dont have the VFR sticker on the side on the plastics, above the radiators?
Do they have them as standard?
All the UK ones do, unless its had a bump and they havent been reapplied?
If you are talking about the 6th gen, they were not marketed as VFR's. They were only called Interceptors.
marriedmanIf you are talking about the 6th gen, they were not marketed as VFR's. They were only called Interceptors.
Ooh i see.
So they come from the factory with no stickers on the front side fairing?
Cheers
I think they come w a sticker on both sides of the rear cowl that says Interceptor instead
Sorry to hijack this thread with that question.
I couldnt look at another vfr without thinking 'its missing its sticker, wonder if its been sprayed' haha
To make it up to you.
Hes a pic of my 6th gen with its new 8 spoker on after id had both wheels powdercoated, and the VFR sticker im talking of.
Will go out and get a few decent pictures of it when the weathers right and I've recovered from my op.
Cheers.

Well not exactly correct. Although my '07 had no markings other than the "Interceptor" on the tail (which you have to look real close to see), my '03 has a big VFR tag.
Looking back at these, I gotta say I loved that deep red colour.

Interestingly, factory 6th gen hard bags sold in the US say "Interceptor" on the badge. The bags I got from the UK say "VFR" on them. Similar to how the 1000RR is known as the Fireblade in Europe, that nomenclature is not used in the US. Apparently it's all in the local marketing . . .

Picked her up last night, rode her 500 miles and change home today. I knew this bike would be a change from my 5th-gen, but I didn't think it would be such a huge improvement in almost every regard. I'm in love
Nice score to get the hardbags with it. Did you keep the 5th gen?
Nope, had to sell the 5th to pay for the new one. I was ready to move on, I badly wanted hard bags, and I had some major trust issues with my old bike after an inexplicable lowside last September. This one ticks every box but ABS, and finding an RWB with factory bags is a one in a million shot as far as I'm concerned.

That's pretty mint, congrats. The sixth gen is a great used value...for buyers. Picked mine up about 15 months ago with 18k miles on the clock. Had some scratches on the fairing which I fixed, but I only paid $1600 for the bike. Despite it's age, it still hauls the mail!
Were those fairing decals OE in Canada? I need a set...
Thanks! $1600 is pretty great :) I'm always jealous of the prices/selection available in the US for cars & bikes. Yes all the ones for sale around here have them so I'd say yes they were standard.
Really wanted to find one with factory bags, but they seem to be pretty rare around here and when I saw this one I jumped on it.
It was a great price, but it needed some TLC to shine up. Plus, I don't have ABS...
I'll have to find a set of those decals.

Here is my VFR, 12 years later and she still puts a smile on my face! :goofy:

I love the white! I originally intended on painting my Silver one White when I got it, but I figured if I painted it , then I'd need to replace tons of worn stuff to match the new body. My Asphalt one I also originally had thoughts of repainting it, but the matte paint just grew on me. I guess I need to buy another VFR and paint it...lol

The swingarm in particular is beautiful - very cool how you can see the pipe in the reflection. I have a lot of respect for anyone that takes the time and effort to bring a bike to this level. Polishing is a ton of work - not counting the teardown and re-assembly. Nicely done.

Thanks guys! Yyou must have done some polishing yourself. I would NEVER do it again. I bought the bike brand new in 1990, and all my friends had Gixxers, ZX-7's, and FZR's. They all had polished frames and wheels, so I decided to do mine. Wow, by the time I got done with the 80-grit sand-cast swingarm, I decided not to do the wheels. Honda must have made the master mold from rough concrete. That was 25 years ago, and my fingerprints are just now growing back........

And that beautiful trailer to carry them both on. I'll bet that's a sight going down the road!!
Working on the bike. Getting there. I had some new (for me) plastics coming in but UPS ran over them with a fork lift. Bike is running great. Went for a short ride before the weather changed. [image: attachicon.gif]image.jpeg

Switch,
How many miles do you have on it now? IIRC it was 5,000 or so when you got it.

Gave the girl a bath this past weekend, finally! Still had bugs plastered to the front from TMAC...
By the time I got on her the temps had dropped to 47F... still a great ride! I had only ridden once since TMAC with KDON because of my thumb... can see the moisture boiling out of the oil through Seb's window as I'm warming her up... :goofy:

Howdy,
Here is my two Honda's. The V45 I just finished restoring after it's long hibernation in a friends garage for 13 + years. The VFR has lowered custom pegs, Helibars, LED running lights, grip warmers, Assy electrical bus etc. VFR has 8400 miles and V45 has 30K. Love them both.
Cheers

oh and in case anyone is wondering, yes that is a full TBR exhaust on the 94.
We're having a heatwave here in Southern California and it's supposed to be over 100 degrees F today and tomorrow. Great day to wake up at dawn and go for a quick ride. Took advantage of the great lighting to take some VFR selfies.
The RWB is always so photogenic!

Last one. A rarely seen side of the bike.
I took this picture a week or so after returning home from TMac 13, a vacation I shall not soon forget. I was really surprised there were no 7th gens there and I had the only 8th gen. ... maybe if Honda brought back gear-driven cams, a light under-tail exhaust, etc.....
Only got one pic on here in my "newbie" introduction thread so thought I'd expand the gallery a little.
Some great bikes on here so here's mine to add!
First three were on day of purchase then the last was a shot I got after a quick stop on the Horseshoe pass before tucking into a great bacon and sausage sarnie at the Ponderosa.

Man I love the 5th gen rear wheel..
Picked up my 6th Gen recently and have been slowly tweaking to my liking.. have fitted a Saddlemen foam/cover kit and new screen, partial debaffle etc.
I just received my MTC twin spout exhausts, so I'll post some pics and vids in appropriate forum later for those after fitting.
So far loving this bike! Such a great all rounder

fifth gen rear wheel? lol
My new to me 2004 VFR800 that I picked up 2 weeks ago. It's got a poorly matched aftermarket fairings kit so I will eventually replace it with a new set down the road. In the meantime I plan on throwing some new rubber on it and riding the heck out of it. It will be replacing my beloved ST1100. The 2nd pic includes my wife's Shadow Sabre 1100 which I'm also selling since she's decided to quit riding. This is probably the last time I will have that many Hondas in my garage. :(

Haha, nope, too poor for that. I'll have the finish redone one day, but until then, I'll just have to ride around with my pipe looking like I used it to catch chicken drippings in the oven.
Insurance should cover it?

Cap's on the trailer in the garage right now. Put him up a bit soon since the weather's been better than expected for November, but he and the CB1100 will be trailered down to Atlanta for Thanksgiving and then down to Florida in January, so there won't be a full hibernation this year.
