Personally, I scrape the outter front part of my boot more often than the footpegs. I have yet to break any toes or bones while riding a motorcycle.
I get a better feel of how far further I can lean the bike when my boot touches first.
04asphalt, Mar 11 2005, 08:51 AMwhen in a hard lean do you scrape your pegs, boots or both? I'm wondering about those toe sliders on boots. do you really need them? will it ruin your boots if you don't have them? I haven't gotten that far yet but would think the feelers on the pegs would touch first
Boots... pegs... exhaust... side stand... lower fairing fastener and fairing have all been scrape in that order... First thing you learn racing is that your bike needs modified for more corner clearance...

Outer front portion of the boots only. I figure that is a good indicator that I am going fast enough. My suspension is actually set too "firm" for me but I think that might keep the hard parts of the bike off the ground as well. I was scraping the center stand on the curb leaving the driveway two up so I cranked it up a bit and decided I could feel more of the road when I was out on my own and just left it set there.
i dont have any pictures of my scraping like Mr RC does, but if you send a self abused stomped antelope to me, ill send some rubber shavings from my boot and a few pieces of metal from my peg feelers (like they ever touch down) to you. :)
Boot and peg, both sides.
If I plan for it, peg scrapes.
If I don't plan for it, let's say I'm just tooling around and not really thinking i'm going fast enough to tuck my inside leg in, and oh... a curve after a bridge tightens up suddenly...
boot scrapes.
If I'm not paying attention to my foot positioning, I'll drag my toes. It happens more frequently than it should, like immortalfool mentioned. It takes me by surprise sometimes because I don't realize I'm leaned over that far.
I will occasionally drag a peg, but I have never ridden at the track and I only feel comfortable letting it all hang out in a handful of curves. Everywhere else, I'm paranoid about cars hitting me head-on in my lane, so I normally leave a little reserve to hopefully manouver away from the oncoming cagers.
I did boots and pegs once, shit myself and haven't since.
Sorry guys. I'm a wimp. :(

Scared the crap outta myself the first time too. If I don't reposition my foot and hang it, I'll still reflexivly pull my foot up every now and then, but if I'm expecting to lean very far, it doesn't bother me to touch the peg. If I could only find the time and extra $$$ for a track day... :wheel:

I hear you brother. Living in Alaska and paying over 2 Grand a year for heating oil is killing me. Oh, and even if I had the extra cash, we don't have any tracks in the city and borough of Juneau. :goofy:
I scraped the peg feeler and boot at the same time. Solution, removed the peg feeler and got rearsets. This is on a CBR954rr mind you. 1 inch up and 1 inch back did the trick.
