I was wondering if anyone could recommend a throttle lock that is easy to use and won't break the bank. I'm itching to make some longer rides but the miles take its toll pretty quick on me. I know a lock will help so any tips...much appreciated.
I too have a throttle meister which I paid about 120 for and which is a great piece as mentioned by canuck. O ring? Well, you get what you pay for usually.
I have a Vista Cruise Control that was about $20 or $30 can't remember. It works okay but the modifications you have to do are a pain. I dremeled all night just to get it to fit without hitting the tank. The actual thumb lock will hit the tank if you don't cut it down. I recommend it if you don't want to spend the money and you will only use it once in a while because it is a pretty cheezy design. I do think it looks better than all others though. It is very small and hides well next to the throttle.
There was another post here recently and was mentioned that an O ring can be used as a type of friction lock with good success. Never tried it myself but will this year, hey for a buck what the F***. :beer:
I have the throttlemeister also and would recommend it. I bought the heavy ones and am very happy with them. The only thing that I think would be better would be an electronic one that would change rpm's to keep speed the same while going uphill, or during head on winds etc., it does get annoying constantly having to vary the throttle to compensate once it is set.
I also have the vista. it works pretty well. I think I only paid $10 for it. You do have to cut off the plastic rim near the thumb side of the throttle though. Its not too much of a pain, just a minor annoyance.

You would never guess just how much a throttle rocker can help. They take some getting used to, but are easy to set and remove. I pulled a couple of 700 mile days this fall with one, never had a single problem... and hey, it automatically adjusts for hills and getting around those dangerous SUV's.

When you say throttle Rocker is that a brand name of lock or what? Auto adjusting is a cool thing...can you give more detail?
I bought the NEP lock from Aerostich last year for about $23 delivered. Installed it within 10 min. and it works very well. It's not as pretty as the 'Meister or even the Vista, but it's foolproof.
I've used a rocker and it helps a little, but the throttle lock helps a LOT. I still use the rocker sometimes as it makes a nice palm rest.

Hurk 249 poasted a link to the keriokian site that has there flavor of throttle rocker. Mine came in the mail yesterday and what a breez! (thanks Hurk :beer: ) easy to put on...its made of soft rubber so's nice on the hand, WILL NOT SLIP! :D plus its cheep......12.00 with shiping. This thing and a pocket full of O rings and I'm good to go. :thumbsup:
I put the 7/8" Vista Cruise on my bike. I had to dremel a chamfer out of the 7/8" opening to clear the lip on the grip. Only took about 10 minutes. And, like others, the thumb switch can hit the tank. But then I installed the 3/4" Genmar handlebar risers and the Vista Cruise now easily clears the tank. I did remove the grip to give the Vista Cruise a bit more room, probably only moved the grip a couple of mm. I really like the Vista Cruise, inexpensive and very effective. Only drawback is that you can't thumb the start button quite as easily but you get used to it and can still start the bike in a panic moment without hesitation.
