VFR Discussion Group -> another new guy... Chicago

Hi all, just wanted to say hello, been lurking in this forum for a week..

Gone are the memories of pothole-infested flatland straights, the 4 month riding season, and the endless traffic jams with no lanesplitting allowed. Spring is just around the corner here in Chicago (we can't see it yet, but we suspect it's there!) and I want a new bike. Have almost decided on a VFR, and have scanned through the forums to determine which one to get (used), both 2002 v-tecs and 5th gen are within my price range. Basically both good bikes it seems, the color appears to determine how fast it is, so now it's just a matter of finding a good deal on a clean specimen.. FAST! Might get one this weekend..!

The bike I'm also half-way looking out for is a 01+ ZX-9R. It's quite comfy and more sporty than the VFR (which I've yet to sit on), but I really want a reliable, trouble-free fuel-injected bike. Have downloaded various tankcam videos of the ZX-9R and it scares the hell out of me. That thing really flies with a sufficiently retarded rider on it, and given the opportunity, I would undoubtedly embrace that role.. Still, it's the bike I want, but the VFR is the bike I think should get.. It's definitely gonna be a step up from my mid-90's suzuki katana750.. If I could only lose this nagging feeling of having missed out on the fun young-idiot-on-a-crazy-fast-sportbike phase, seems I went directly to touring land.. Well, it might not be such a bad thing anyway..

Of course I'd pick the 6th Generation in Silver.

I'm in Oak Park with a '98 VFR that I got in October. You can't go wrong. It's a great bike, and this is a great forum...so far you're thinkin' right!

Well guys, I'm now one of you. Picked up my 02 VFR yesterday, and rode it home 475 miles after various detours with a huge grin on my face. The first day I was grinning because of the sweet bike and the amazing roads that exist outside of Chicago-land, today I was grinning since I started riding at 8am trying to outrun the forecasted rain... With 37 degrees as the base, who wants to calulate the windchill when going ~100mph?

And what a bike! Solid and comfortable and a looker too! It could use another 20 hp, or I of course pursue plan B, as someone once told me "the easist way to get your bike faster, is for you to go on a diet, fatass!"... :lol:

Congrads on the bike. Which one did you get, and from where? I might've seen it as well, as it sounds like we both might have been looking around the same time. If you ever decide to make it up to WI for a ride, drop me a line. Now that our weather's FINALLY starting to cooperate...

Hi Adam, I looked around locally first, there was quite a few 1998 with around 10-20K miles for around $5k at dealers, out the door cost with tax would be closer to $6k. I actually bought one through the ads on this site, much better deal than through a dealer, I flew down to Kentucky and rode it home.. A great ride, I hate Chicago now. :-)

Where in WI are you? I'm scared of the cops in WI, I hear they love to rape IL riders, especially non-Harleys..
